After what seemed to be an eternity of silence from Serbia, Eurovision news is coming in thick and fast. Yesterday, we learned the names of the 24 competing artists in Beovizija 2019 and now RTS have revealed that the competition will spread across three nights instead of just one.
With 24 confirmed artists in Beovizija 2019 it appeared that we would be in for a long evening as last year’s edition only featured one show. However, this year, RTS have organised three evenings for the competition, comprising of two semi-finals and a grand final.
What’s happening when?
Instead of stretching out over a month, RTS have decided to keep Beovizija contained within one fabulous week of Serbian artistry. The dates of the three shows are as follows:
|Semi Final 1||February 27th (Wednesday)|
|Semi Final 2||February 28th (Thursday)|
|Grand Final||March 3rd (Sunday)|
As you could probably predict, each semi-final will contain 12 artists from the total 24. The six best placed entries in each semi-final will subsequently proceed to the Grand Final on March 3rd.
Similar to last year, the result of the competition will be determined by both a jury and a public with 50% of the vote coming from industry experts and the remainder from televoting. It is unknown, as of yet, who the jurors are or how many there will be but the manner in which the votes will be announced is going to be the same as last year.
This means that after the jurors have allocated all their points, these will be converted into 12, 10 8-1 based upon an entrant’s jury ranking. With that, the televoting results will follow in a similar fashion, with the highest ranked act receiving 12 points, the second highest receiving 10, and so on. The artist with the highest amount of points at the end will win the right to represent Serbia in Tel Aviv this May.
Where and when will Beovizija 2019 be broadcast?
Instead of taking place in New Belgrade’s “Sava Centar”, like last year, this year, Beovizija will be broadcast from RTS’s Studio 8 and 9. Viewers will be able to watch the contest on RTS 1 or on the broadcaster’s online portal RTS Planeta. The show will begin at 21:00 CET so clear your calendars!
Songs will be released on RTS’s multimedia platform as well as their YouTube channel when the time comes. In addition to this, each artist will have the opportunity to promote their entry on Serbian television during the Jutarnji Program (Morning Program) or during the Šarenica TV show.
It is still unknown, when exactly the songs will be released but when comparing against last year, the full entries were released around 2 weeks after the official artist announcement. Nevertheless, with the flurry of recent news coming from Serbia, we can’t wait to see what else is to come!
