She’s the Georgian-Greek goddess who will be representing Cyprus at Eurovision 2019. Tamta will be performing “Replay” in Tel Aviv and if Cyprus’ recent track record is anything to go by, we are expecting a high quality entry. Recently, Tamta caught up with our very own Deban Aderemi in Athens to discuss her upcoming Eurovision performance in her first Eurovision interview since being unveiled as the Cypriot artist.

Tamta interview

Tamta is Georgian and moved to Greece in 2001. She chose to represent Cyprus because of her love of Greek and Cypriot people and is honoured to represent the country. The diva discussed her love of fashion, which comes from her mother, who was a seamstress.

Tamta spoke about her work collaborating with Eurovision stars of yesteryear — from Helena Paparizou to Mikolas Josef and perennial national final season favourite M I H A I. She has performed duets or written music with many stars from Greece, Georgia and beyond and is excited for her turn on the Eurovision stage.

The multi-talented performer talked to us about her appearance in a musical as Sally Bowles. Dancing and acting are not her greatest strengths but she loved the experience and would love to do it again. We aren’t certain what to expect from her stage show in Tel Aviv, as she said that it is “too early” to know the staging yet. However, she feels lucky to have such a strong team behind her entry.

Tamta at Eurovision

Tamta also spoke about her previous attempt to represent Greece in 2007 with the song “With Love“. She feels she may not have been ready for Eurovision at the time but we’re confident that 12 years on, she is ready to slay. She also discusses coming close to a Eurovision appearance in 2015 with “Unloved”.

The star has judged on The X-Factor in both Greece and Georgia and described the experience as emotional, reminiscent of her own start on Super Idol. She is excited to be on the other end of that in Eurovision and is ready to receive feedback regarding her song and performance.

Tamta has a special message for her fans on wiwibloggs. “Hi guys, I’m very excited to come to Eurovision and I promise I’ll do my best and I really hope you like my performance and my song,” she said. “All I need is your love and support and I can’t wait to meet you and see you enjoy this road to Eurovision. I’m happy you’re going to be part of my journey.”

Our Deban has been busy in Greece. He also recently caught up with Eurovision 2018 runner-up Eleni Foureira. Can Tamta live up to the bar that the queen of “Fuego” has set for Cyprus?

Are you excited to hear “Replay”? How do you think Tamta will fare at Eurovision? Let us know in the comments below.

Im looking forward to hearing her song. Im certain it’s gonna be a pop banger but i really hope that the production will be completely different from fuego to avoid negative comparisons between the two.
