Sing na na na! Serhat will never be a one-hit wonder. Even after Eurovision 2016 was long gone, his entry for San Marino ā “I Didn’t Know” ā continued to cross borders. It peaked at number one in Mexico and went on to hit the Billboard Dance Charts two years later.
“Say Na Na Na” appears to be taking on a similar route. After qualifying for the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019, it has peaked at number one on the digital charts of Slovakia and Malaysia, and as of today, a new version titled “Sing Na Na Na” will attempt to replicate the success story of this song in the German, Swiss and Austrian music markets.
“Sing Na Na Na” ā Serhat
Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Serhat explains:
“Singing songs in different languages has always been a challenge for me. I have sung in numerous languages in the past such as Russian, German, English, French…but I wrote “Say Na Na Na” in English. I have been fluent in the German language since high school, and it has always been a dream for me to record more music in German. After the success of “Say Na Na Na” in the music charts of many countries, I was approached by my German fans to consider releasing a German version of the song. Michael Begasse, a German journalist came up with the lyrics, which are an adaptation of the original version…which became “Sing Na Na Na”. I was happy with it, so I flew out to Frankfurt for extended studio sessions.”
The imagery for this re-worked music video borrows from the footage of the original. The lyrics are addressed to someone in need of cheering up. Serhat encourages his German fans to look past the dreary times and focus on the positive. Quite often, the solutions lie with us. As Serhat sings, āBe a hero, be the rainbow and say na na na!ā The core of this message isn’t lost in the German version.

Nana Na Na Na Naaa (x3)
Nana Na Na Na
Du fĆ¼hlst dich heut einsam,
Niemand soll Dich sehān
Willst noch nicht mal vor die TĆ¼r,
dabei bist du so schƶn.
Du kannst nichts erreichen
hat er dir gesagt
Denk nicht weiter drĆ¼ber nach,
passiert doch jeden Tag!
Du siehst heute alles grau,
egal, was du jetzt tust.
Du bist eine tolle Frau,
wenn du das hier versuchst:
Hier ist meine Nummer,
ruf an bei Tag und Nacht.
Glaub mir, dir kann nichts geschehān,
ich gebe auf dich acht.
Dieser Song, er lƤsst dich fliegen
Na Na Na
Heute kannst du alles kriegen
Na Na Na. Mit Na Na Na.
Sing Na Na Na!
Drei Worte fĆ¼r dein Leben

Lassen Dich fĆ¼r immer schweben

“Bir, Iki, Ć¼Ć§” still there – he knows his audience
So desperately sad. The rules should be changed so that dentists can’t just buy their way into the contest through a clearly corrupt broadcaster. Evil.
Love the German lyrics — seems nonsense, but flows better than the English one.
Our boy is a polyglot! Bless up.
I still listen San Marino and North Macedonia. What masterpieces!
The German lyrics are really really really cringeworthy sksksk
The lyrics are a bit weird and barely make sense, but who cares? He is KING SERHAT!! š
This song is perfect for the German Speaking Market š When I was in Austria I heard many songs in a similar fashion to this.
Weirdly enough, it sounds better in German than in English. Just like Roelof said: he could become schlager-singer in Germany, and people would love it.
Concerning other songs: Iād love every English language song sang in the language of the performer. Iām really curious how that would sound.
I totally see him becoming a schlager singer in Germany tho XD He has the personality to do it.
