You may not see a direct connection between top model Doutzen Kroes and the Eurovision Song Contest. But in a recent interview with RTL Boulevard worlds collided.
Doutzen — the most famous Dutch supermodel — has been an important ambassador for The Netherlands in recent years. Whether working runways or appearing in advertisements, she’s put forward a very good face for the country. That likely explains why the successful supermodel was recently approached by the organization of Eurovision 2020 to see if she’d like to host the event.
The revelation came during an interview with RTL Boulevard reporter Aran Bade, who spoke the model on the red carpet of the MTV EMAs. He asked whether she had already been asked to present the Eurovision Song Contest. The Frisian model responded as soberly as always: “I can’t do that at all, dude. Although I have already received a call. But I find it all too nerve-wracking.”
ESC 2020 will take place in the Ahoy Rotterdam. And naturally everyone is gagging to know who will host the event. Plenty of names have been suggested and Aran was wise to interrogate Doutzen. After all, there’s precedent for models hosting the event: Bar Rafaeli had the honour in Tel Aviv, while Natalia Vodianova did it in Moscow. But it seems Doutzen would like to play a different role in proceedings.
“Of course, I consider people asking me to become the host a great honour, but there are so many better options in the Netherlands. Maybe I can do that bit that [Wonder Woman] Gal Gadot did for Israel this year. I could show the Netherlands to Europe. Like eating herring with fries.”
Not even the possibility of Michiel Huisman hosting is enough for Doutzen to think she’s up for the challenge: “Oh, I will become a host it if Michiel Huisman is the co-host,” she says laughing.

I think the hosts should be somehow related to music. Celebrities from other areas take attention away from the music competition and the contestants.

Yassss, absolutely yes. Frisians represent! She’s too down to earth. If bar rafaeli can host, doutzen can too. She has tons of camera/speech experience.
Or maybe this is just her polite way of saying she’s not interested.
