They represented North Macedonia at Eurovision 2018 with the fan-favourite crossover entry “Lost and Found”. And now, Eye Cue have released their new song “Tell Me Baby”.
Known for fusing music genres and trumping surprise beats with their catalogue of songs, Eye Cue have approached this new single differently. They’ve stripped back on production elements. Instead, they’ve put a spotlight on Marija Ivanovska’s vocals, and cradled it with simple acoustics. She pours her heart and soul into this track in a way that grips and tugs on your heartstrings.
“Tell Me Baby” is a song about struggling to overcome a failed relationship. Marija’s voice yearns for continuity and the safety net of a relationship that’s no more. But at the same time, her tone and delivery signals a fearful reality. Although the genre here is radio-pop, the lyrics that score it make the song far more emotional than what’s spinning on mainstream airplay. The simple video shows the pair separately — Bojan Trajkovski strums the guitar, whilst Marjia sings.
Eye Cue – “Tell Me Baby”
Speaking exclusively to wiwibloggs, Eye Cue explain:
“Tell Me Baby” is a special song for us. It is a tune that is inspired by a traditional North Macedonian melody, and it was a unique experience for us to deliver it in our own way. We gave birth to completely new lyrics and production to make it more Eye Cue.
What is interesting about this song is the new melodic approach we took in re-shaping it. We enjoy sharing our cultural roots to the new generation of music lovers, and we hope that you feel something when you hear the song.
Lyrics: Eye Cue – “Tell Me Baby”
Tell me baby
Tell me baby
Tell me baby
Tell me baby,
Can you feel my pain?
You broke my heart on two
And I can’t get over you
I think I’m gonna lose it all
I think I’m gonna lose control
You broke my heart on two
And I can’t get over you
I think I’m gonna lose it all
I think I’m gonna lose control x2
Oh help me lord
Help me find my way
I won’t give up
I won’t give up
I don’t wanna lose it all
I don’t wanna lose control x2
“Tell Me Baby” is out now on all digital music platforms.
