His would-be Eurovision 2020 song “Kemama” was all about picking yourself up and slaying on your own terms. And now Benny Cristo is keeping the good vibes coming — even amid the coronavirus pandemic — with his uplifting number “Lockdown Love”.

Benny uploaded the feel-good acoustic number — recorded alongside guitarist Homes — to his Instagram on Tuesday. It encourages everyone to follow the ongoing self-isolation and quarantine rules so we can collectively beat this virus. But he also sends encouraging words and ideas to make life more bearable while you’re isolated.

“Countries on a lockdown, delivery a new mayday, Netflix no vacay,” he sings. “I bet nine months from now they’re gonna be a lot more babies….I hope nine years from now these lyrics gonna sound crazy.”

“Speaking of coming together there’s nothing I rather do than make you feel better.”

And he does that by FaceTiming and WhatsApping the many new friends he’s made during his Eurovision journey. Italy, Span, US, UK, Kenya — we’re all on the line and sharing the love!

Benny gathered the clips in recent days as several countries have implemented new rules and restrictions on movement to help “flatten the curve” of coronavirus infections. We can vouch that these weren’t just superficial clips filmed for the video. He took time to chat with everyone and to see how they were doing in uncertain times.

Writing on Instagram, Benny said:

“Just wanted to say this quarantine made me realize how many amazing friends and people I have met all around the world and also that I might not see y’all for a bit.”

“I want to stay connected with all of you and I’ll keep trying although I’m THE WORST in responding. Thanks to all the friends who responded super quickly to put this fun vid together in a short period of time.”

He also shouted out to his sister Bianca “living in LA that I won’t see for a while.”

Besides conveying his positive spirit, the song also showcases how pure and rich Benny’s voice is. He has a hint of Wyclef Jean in him — his vocal quality is so unique he doesn’t need fancy tricks to stir feeling.

Are you loving the feel-good sound of Benny’s latest song? Do you agree it was a sweet gesture to include new friends from his Eurovision journey? Sound off in the comments box below!

Echoing others comments, would love to see him better, I think he had a great track, that in an energetic live performance was destined to do well, but because the response to Kemama was a little divisive, there won’t be lots and lots of pressure to top it like there will be for The Roop and Destiny for example. The Czech’s should definitely offer him the gig.

Every time I watch the Kemama video, I can’t help but feel it looks like a hotbed for the spread of the virus – will we ever see scenes like that again?

To be honest, I think Benny Cristo should be chosen for next year. 🙂
(Hope all of us can recover from this crisis.)
