In the midst of the coronavirus outbreak, it can seem like the world as we know it has ceased to exist. Lockdowns, social distancing and self-isolation have become everyday terms as half of all humanity faces some form of restriction. Naturally this can lead to fear and anxiety — especially for those who must fight Covid-19 on their own.

But in the middle of these gloomy times, there is also a little warmth, a little joy and a speck of hope — whether it be home concerts from our favourite Eurovision stars to the people of Punjab being able to see the Himalayas through clear skies for the first time in several decades to a one-on-one conversation with John Cleese through social media or simply a group of friends doing their best to cheer up a loved one.

þetta var gaman ég elska að koma á óvart. Love you Regína?

And that last example is exactly what went down in Reykjavík recently, when the Eurovision goddess Regína Ósk got a welcome visit from some of her closest friends, while she is in home isolation fighting the dreaded Covid-19.

Musicians such as Hera Björk, Selma and Regína’s Euroband partner Friðrik Ómar, along with several other Icelandic stars, gathered around her front porch and performed her best-selling single “Believe in You” while the singer watched and listened from her kitchen window, giggling and ecstatic because of the lovely gesture.

Regína seems to be one of the lucky people who are only showing mild symptoms, but she is still barricading herself in her home, in order to heal faster and to avoid infecting those around her. While the songstress is probably entertaining herself by watching Tiger King or baking bread, it’s always nice to have a bit of human interaction. Even if its through a window and with a minimum of two metres apart! There are few things in life more valuable than true friends. Especially in times like these.
