Francesca Michielin Fedez Sanremo 2021

They’re the bookies’ favourites to win the Festival outright. But over the weekend, fans of Francesca Michielin and Fedez were left shook when it emerged that the popular duo could be disqualified from Italy’s Sanremo 2021. However, the fear was short-lived, as organisers promptly confirmed that the pair could remain in the competition. But why were Francesca and Fedez facing disqualification in the first place?

Francesca Michielin & Fedez will not be disqualified from Sanremo 2021

The drama began after Fedez posted an Instagram story in which you could hear a little piece of “Chiamami per nome” – his 2021 entry with Francesca. While he (or his team) didn’t waste any time in deleting the offending snippet, the clip quickly began to spread across social media.

As with Sweden’s Melodifestivalen, Sanremo has very strict rules regarding the release of songs before a certain date. The Festival forbids acts from publishing their entries before the first night of the competition. So, this left everyone with one question – did Fedez’s Instagram story amount to publication, and thereby breach the contest regulations?

RAI and Sanremo producers launched an investigation immediately, and by Sunday they had ruled that everything was ok. “The duration of the interpretation in the video – posted and subsequently deleted by the artist – is extremely short and such as not to reveal the piece itself,” they said in a statement.

They conclude that the brevity of the clip and its subsequent deletion prevent the entry from being considered published. Its “novelty” or newness remains intact ahead of the Festival. “Chiamami per nome” will receive its official debut — along with the 25 other entries — when Sanremo kicks off on 2 March.

Are you glad that Fedez and Francesca remain in the competition? Are you excited to hear the entry in full next month? Let us know below.

It reminds of how wiktoria’s song was accidentally leaked on Spotify but she didn’t get disqualified because it was clear that it was an accident and that she had nothing to do with it.

This has turned into a soap, more entertaining than Bold And The Beautiful but slightly below Home and Away:)
Join us next week to see if there will be audience, and tune in to see if Amadeus will quit! All will be revealed in next episode!

Campier than Days of our Lives.
More restless than the Young and the Restless.
More mobsters running around Sanremo than around Port Charles in General Hospital.
The Kiriakises, Dimeras, and Cassadines got nothing on the one and only Amadeus.
Cookier than the residents of Albert Square in EastEnders.
