Jüri Pootsmann is your favourite to win Eesti Laul 2021

Eesti Laul 2021 wraps up this weekend. In the grand final of the competition, twelve acts will battle it out for the Estonian ticket to Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam. But only one act can win.

Ahead of the final, we asked our readers who they think should win Eesti Laul 2021 and represent Estonia at Eurovision. And the results are now in!

Jüri Pootsmann is your favourite to win Eesti Laul 2021

We counted a total of 2,486 votes in our poll. And taking the top spot, by a wide margin, is Jüri Pootsmann. Jüri previously won Eesti Laul in 2016 with his song “Play”, but failed to make it past the semi-finals at Eurovision in Stockholm. This year, he’s looking for redemption.

In our poll, “Magus melanhoolia” picked up 745 votes — that’s 29.97% of the total vote.

In addition to his success here, “Magus melanhoolia” recently reached number one on the Estonian Spotify chart ahead of the Eesti Laul final. Are the stars aligned for Jüri Pootsmann this year?

Second place in our poll goes to last year’s champion Uku Suviste. In 2020, he took home the Eesti Laul trophy with “What Love Is”. This year, he’s hoping to take “The Lucky One” to Eurovision and finally get his chance to sing on the Rotterdam stage following the cancellation of the 2020 contest. Uku Suviste received 438 votes in our poll — 17.62% of all votes cast.

In third place is Koit Toome with “We Could Have Been Beautiful”. The two-time Eurovision star returns to Eesti Laul as a solo artist after winning the 2017 edition of the competition with “Verona” alongside Laura Põldvere. He’s the only other act in our poll to receive more than 200 votes. Koit Toome picked up 342 votes — 13.76% of the total vote.

Interestingly, all of the top three acts in our poll are former Eesti Laul champions. If Jüri Pootsmann, Koit Toome or Uku Suviste emerge victorious, they’ll make history as the first act to ever win the competition twice as a performer since its introduction in 2009.

Full results: Who should win Estonia’s Eesti Laul 2021?

  1. Jüri Pootsmann – “Magus melanhoolia” – 29.97% (745 votes)
  2. Uku Suviste – “The Lucky One” – 17.62% (438 votes)

  6. Egert Milder – “Free Again” – 4.47% (111 votes)
  7. Sissi – “Time” – 4.14% (103 votes)
  8. Redel – “Tartu” – 4.10% (102 votes)

  12. Karl Killing – “Kiss Me” – 2.78% (69 votes)

Total votes: 2,486

Eesti Laul 2021: The final

Estonia will choose its Eurovision 2021 act over two rounds of voting. First, a combination of public and jury votes will decide the top three acts to progress through to the super-final. Then, the Estonian public will vote again to elect their song and artist for Rotterdam.

The final of Eesti Laul 2021 airs on Saturday 6 March at 18:30 CET.

What do you think? Will our poll results match the Eesti Laul 2021 results? Will Jüri Pootsmann be heading to Eurovision for a second time? Let us know in the comments below.

I love Jüri’s song, hope it wins. I have a feeling it’s Uku’s or Koit’s though.

Estonia will jump in to my top 5 if they pick Juri tonight.

I’ll be so happy if Jüri, Koit or Kadri wins Eesti Laul tonight!
That said, I think that Uku will win the Estonian National final again… His song is not too bad but I’m not really thrilled about it either… We’ll see the results though, Estonians can be somewhat unpredictable sometimes: Tanja in 2014, Koit Toome and Laura in 2017 and even Uku Suviste himself last year were not favorites and still beat the odds.
In any case, I am so excited for tonight, I can’t wait!

If Jüri wins, it is yet another last place for Estonia, because Jüri can’t sing. His song is good tho, his 2016 song was good as well. His voice is why he will never succeed in Eurovision.

Edit: I can’t any better, but still…

My favourite is actually ma olen siin. I find the song very good it’s somehow melancholic and modern at the same time. I love how it brings a sort of father and son vibe to the contest. I love the music video so I think they could do more with the staging in Rotterdam. fingers crossed for them but I’m sure they won’t win. my close second has to be juri for sure. amazing song, just not too sure about his vocals. they’re good but sound somehow grating against the backing voices. I’d also be happy if kadri voorand goes… Read more »

Unpopular opinion or not my winner is Hans, since the beginning I support him and I wish him good luck.
