Every weekday, between now and the contest in May, the team from wiwibloggs will round up the latest titbits from the world of Eurovision 2021. We trawl through Instagram, Twitter and elsewhere so that y’all don’t have to. In today’s Daily Digest, Daði og Gagnamagnið cover Little Big’s “Uno”, Blas Cantó and Victoria meet in Spain and Albania, Ireland and Malta come together in Sweden. But first…

Eurovision news: 30 April

Florian Wieder gives arena tour to four-time Eurovision stage designer Roland de Groot

Eurovision 2021 stage designer Florian Wieder gave Dutch stage designer Roland de Groot a tour of this year’s stage in Ahoy. De Groot designed his first Eurovision stage in 1970. At the time, his stage design was seen as revolutionary for adding floating objects to the decor. As a result of his success, De Groot also designed the stages of Eurovision 1976 and 1980 in The Hague and the stage of 1984 in Luxembourg. Looking at the modern stage in Ahoy, the 81-year-old retired designer told NOS that he thought it was ‘fantastic’ to see what had been built. (Renske)

Blas Cantó goes acoustic

Blas Cantó has dropped an acoustic version of his Eurovision song “Voy a Quedarme”. With just a piano for company, this version is much more intimate, emotionally rawer and flows more quietly. But it still retains Blas’ emotion and falsettos. Dressed as in the official video of the song, Blas offers a much warmer and more sentimental performance of his already emotional song. This version joins his growing collection of interpretations of the entry, including an English version, and perhaps, an upcoming French one. (Jordi)

Stefania breaks up with her boyfriend

Stefania has split from her longtime beau, Jannes Heuvelmans. The two first met through Junior Eurovision, with Stefania representing the Netherlands in 2016 and Jannes the year after. Thankfully, they remain on good terms. Posting to her Instagram stories, Stefania writes: “After 2.5 years we now choose to go our own ways ❤️ Without any doubt you are the most amazing person. You helped me and supported me like no one else did. I want to thank you for the most beautiful 2.5 years of my life. I enjoyed it so much with you. The way you made me feel was amazing. I will love you forever and will always support you with everything. And yes people, we are still friends ❤️”

Daði Freyr covers Little Big’s “Uno”

He previously cited Russia’s Eurovision 2020 act as a big influence, and now Iceland’s Daði Freyr has put his own spin on their would-be entry in last year’s cancelled contest — “Uno”. He adds a healthy mix of synths, telling fans that he will perform “Uno” and other Eurovision classics in the second edition of JúróDaði on the official Eurovision channel this Saturday, 1 May at 5pm GMT / 6PM UK BST / 7PM Europe CES.

The Daði og Gagnamagnið bus is coming!

Meanwhile, the Gagnamagnið gang have their transport to Rotterdam sorted. They’ll travel to the airport in a bespoke bus covered in the artwork from their new mobile video game.

The Roop for the Wiwi Jam at Home

Ain’t no party without these three! We are thrilled to confirm that The Roop will see you at the Wiwi Jam at Home Concert. Their songs don’t just make our bodies move: they also move our hearts with their empowering message and uplifting spirit. The band will no doubt have everyone smiling when they hit our digital stage on May 19. The “Discoteque” is “On Fire”. (William)

Blas Cantó and Victoria meet in Spain

There was also a mini-Eurovision meet-up in Spain, when Blas Cantó caught up with Bulgaria’s Victoria. After performances from France’s Barbara Pravi and Switzerland’s Gjon’s Tears, the hit Spanish documentary the pair became the latest Eurovision 2021 stars to perform on the hit documentary series Rocío.

Victoria took the opportunity to sing part of “Growing Up Is Getting Old” in Spanish.

Additional contributions from Renske, Jordi and William.

“Who gave Victoria permission to slay?”

Dadi Freyr daily news: I like him. But fan choir, video game, cover versions, etc. If you combine it with an average song, it meanwhile looks a bit desperate.

Since last year I’ve seen him and his gang as nothing, but a product with clear calculated marketing strategy. It never felt genuine to me.

what’s wrong with that? He and his team have interesting/geeky ideas to capitalise on the hype and i applaud them for that. Are you going to pay for their expenses??

what a bad timing to break up with your boyfriend… just days before rehearsals!

i think thye broke up because Stefania is travelling to Greece frequently for the last two years and we all know that teenage relationships are hard to maintain.

So everyone’s travelling… Victoria to Spain, Lesley, Anxela and Destiny to Sweden, Natalia Kirkorova to Lebanon, Greece, Russia and Romania etc coronaWHO??

Nice to see Lesley spending time with the other participants like Destiny and Anxhela.
Usually they’d all have met by now but with the situation as it is, it’s nice to see some acts in the same physical proximity pre contest.

I think that it is kinda inappropriate to post about a breakup of a person whoever it is. I don’t blame you, as a huge number of Greek media did it, but this is actually not news that we should know. I know that they had a joint statement about their breakup, but actually media posting about personal life of someone is soo annoying.

I tell all of these because 3 years I’ve been reading your articles I admire so much your work and I know that you didn’t intend to do that on purpose

She literally shared a long ass note about it on Instagram… and so did he…

It’s not as if they hacked into her phone and found out through undercover surveillance

She clearly wants fans to know, otherwise she would have kept silent

Yeah this is so true. That’s why I mostly respect people like Jendrik who don’t say a single word about their relationships

You won’t be voting for Iceland, I suppose.

Dude, of course I’m going to vote for Iceland if their performance is amazing. Because I don’t want to see a new Iceland 2016, when Iceland got robbed

But Daði never stops going on about his relationship… that’s literally what 10 Years is all about!
