Bologna is truly pulling out its biggest assets to convince broadcaster Rai that it’s the perfect candidate to host Eurovision 2022. Among the big guns unleashed for their candidacy is the famous artist Laura Pausini, who is now openly supporting the city on her social media profiles.

Laura Pausini supports Bologna for Eurovision 2022 host city

On July 18, the artist from Solarolo posted two stories on her Instagram and Facebook pages supporting Bologna’s candidacy for Eurovision 2022. Tagging @wiwibloggs and @eurovision, she invited her fans to vote for the Emilian capital in an online host city poll.

Even though polls created by fans have no weight whatsoever in a decision that will be taken solely by Rai, they allow officials to narrow down the list to the most sought-after Italian destinations by fans of the European event. These are, of course, the people most likely to spend their salary on attending the song contest.

In her Insta Stories, Laura communicated that Bologna is her clear preference among the seventeen cities that have expressed their interest in hosting Eurovision 2022.

Laura, who recently performed her Oscar-nominated song “Io Si/Seen” at the 2021 Oscars pre-show, conveyed her love of Bologna through the music on her Stories too. Accompanying her posts was the music of Raffaella Carrà — the iconic Italian performer and singer known for, among other things, her love of Eurovision. The choice didn’t seem random at all. That’s partly due to the similar geographic origins of the two performers, and partly because of Bologna’s desire to dedicate its candidacy to Raffaella as a tribute following her recent passing.

Eurovision 2022: Bologna’s candidacy

The city of Bologna is working tirelessly on the presentation of its project for Eurovision 2022, coordinated by a team of leading industry experts and an event management company, Free Event, which boasts experience in organizing major international events.

Upon the publication of the 17 eligible cities to host the next edition of Eurovision, the mayor of Bologna, Virginio Merola, had already commented with enthusiasm that “Bologna, the city of music, has the ambition and the characteristics needed to host the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.”

Apparently the city council of Bologna had “already started to work the day after Måneskin’s victory”, ready to “provide Rai with all the necessary information.”

Among the most popular venues in the Bolognese area that could host the European kermesse, we find Unipol Arena, a well-known temple of music for national and international artists, including Katy Perry, whose performance you can watch below.

Bologna Fiere is a great candidate, too, with its large (and recently renovated) pavilions that already successfully hosted a temporary sports hall for Virtus basketball games.

Among the proposals made by the city, there is of course the intention to use the event to pay homage to Raffaella Carrà, who recently passed away.

“A queen of the stage” — explained Andrea Camporesi of Free Event — “who we’d love to honour in front of over 180 million viewers.”

Born in Bologna and internationally renowned, Carrà is undoubtedly a beloved figure both in Italy and abroad.

The idea of setting Eurovision 2022 in her hometown would certainly attract the enthusiasm of the European public. It would also represent an occasion for a collective tribute in a festive atmosphere that “Raffa” embodied throughout her long career.

With Laura Pausini on side, Bologna has received the blessing of one of the best-known and most-loved Italian artists in the world. And — who knows — if the city were to host Eurovision, maybe we could see her as a special guest during the interval act. Who wouldn’t love that?

It’s probably Bologna or Turin. They both have very strong bids

When will they release the shortlisted cities?

As far as I know, there are only 4 options either way: Milan, Turin, Rome and Bologna.

Rome was out along with everyone else for not having a suitable arena. The only true bids were Bologna, Turin and Milan

I think not officially out but realistically only Bologna, Milan and Turin are viable 2022 hosts.

I want either Rome or Bologna but we all know that Rome does not meet the requirements.

RAI will eventually choose Turin, i am afraid.

Don’t count your chickens yet. Turin may have the most equipped all round but Bologna won’t go down without a fight and my preference would be Milan.
