Brooke That's Rich RTE Eurosong 2022

She won Ireland’s national final wearing pajamas, and she looked like she’d had a few drinks before hitting the stage at the Eurovision pre-parties.

And now Ireland’s Brooke Scullion has plans for yet another visual iteration with her Eurovision 2022 staging.

Speaking to The Six O’Clock News in Ireland, the “That’s Rich” hitmaker made clear her stage show has evolved and is evolving. She said:

“The way that I describe it everyone is now is: Late Late was primary school, this Euro-tour that I’ve been doing is, like, a secondary school. And then we’re going to get to university in the Eurovision. So no more slumber parties. She’s graduated.”

“I’m still not in any way sexy — I’ve still got the physique of a nine-year-old boy — but we’re good. I’m gonna try and make it look a little more appealing.”

Brooke says Ireland’s Eurovision staging has been reworked

Staging has been a consistent concern for fans of the song.

Writing in our recent Wiwi Jury review, Oliver flagged the stage show as a potential limitation.

“Fiery girl bops are few and far between this year, but Brooke is bringing the fun,” he writes. “A nod to feminine empowerment, “That’s Rich” fills the dancefloor and brings out the listener’s inner provocateur with its flirtatious and feisty lyrics. Bar the distorted middle eight, it’s a solid studio cut.”

“Red flags pop up in Brooke’s live performance. She’s got the vocal prowess, but her staging needs a drastic overhaul. A set of faux-silk Primark pyjamas doesn’t scream rich. With a bit of extra polishing to the visual presentation and Brooke’s confidence on stage, Team Ireland will have glowing product.”

I hope Brooke qualifies! She has such a lovely, bubbly personality, and her song is not similar to other songs in her semi-final so it could qualify! The main thing is, I think she needs more dancers so she can focus more on vocals and less on dancing. Hopefully, the new theme and staging will work well!

I was actually pleasantly surprised by Brooke’s performances in the pre-parties, and the song is really fun. If the staging is indeed good I think a qualification is not as impossible as many believe.
As for the “nine-year-old boy’s body”, it sounds like complement fishing to me. Brooke is a good looking girl and she must want to hear it a little more.

Nah it’s just the sense of humor here, she wasn’t fishing fir compliments it’s just a figure of speech, kind of a way of answering awkward questions, to just try and turn the response into something funny.

I’m sorry but what nine year old boys has she seen. She is being very modest. Pity about the song though.
Does anyone know whether the wiwi juries videos have been scrapped this year. It’s just that there’s not much time left to fit 40 songs in.

Yes they’ve been scrapped. William answered in a comment thread on a post some days ago that it’s because of several persons having a too demanding situation in life right now so they don’t have time to film.

Brooke, you don’t look like a nine-year old boy. Chanel’s body is no better or worse than yours. You look fine.

they could avoid the bottom 3 for sure because i see lesser hopes for San Marino, Georgia and North Macedonia the latter whose song literally goes nowhere, Achille’s just is all over the place and not exactly very memorable despite it being a glamrock vibe, very weak maneskin copycat and Georgia is too amateurish

can see Ireland 12th or 13th in the semi

i do hope Brooke will continue to have a career after ESC regardless of result because i like her a lot

I wonder how many times we have to fail before RTÉ tries something different.

RTE want to fail. They have so successfully since the late 90s. RTE are financially struggling for many many years. If Ireland wanted to win they could. Likewise with the BBC in the UK.

It was voted for by the national public and international jury. RTÉ didn’t choose to send it.

I think if she can bring sass and good, consistent vocals where she doesn’t run out of breath she could qualify. I worry it will have Roxen vibes where she clearly couldn’t do all the choreo and they changed absolutely nothing to help her. I think keep the dancing to a manageable amount Brooke has plenty of attitude and confidence anyway. The only similar song in it’s semi is Israel. I don’t think either of their songs are great or a very professional product, but he can sing his song with ease, but if she can nail it I suspect… Read more »

Maybe she should try to learn how to sing properly…

Exactly, the problem will not be the staging, it are her vocals

Don’t delude yourself . If somehow it magically qualifies for the final it will be bottom 3 . We only had decent acts in 2015 and 2018 in last 10 years. RTE is a major problem

I’d take a bottom 3 result.
Simple qualification would be our best result alone since 2018.

2015 was boring to death… That’s why it got only 14 points from the televote.

With good staging she could and I mean COULD lightly qualify.
We all knew she was going to change the staging but I just hope…HOPE that we don’t mess it up with something ridiculous.
I actually liked our staging last year, but there was too much going on Lesley couldn’t keep up with it while she was trying to sing.
Something just as creative but obviously working in tandem with the song and the singer and we COULD possibly maybe have the slightest possible chance at qualifying.

At this point, Ireland is my 9th in semi 2, so, good luck! I wish you make it!

Some of y’all are so mean about Ireland in the comments – Brooke’s clearly dedicated to making this an upgraded and dynamic performance and taking notes. She’s got such an endearing personality, good vocals and a better song for Ireland than in previous years. We’ll see what happens and either way she’s representing Ireland well and having a lot of fun!

Something tells me she’ll have tacky staging like Sarah McTernan did with 22. Ireland having tacky staging isn’t uncommon either

I think she will have more female dancers on stage, which will hopefully mean she won’t have to dance as much as she has been in the pre parties (she can sing well but I think she struggles with catching her breath with this choreo). I think the money gun will be dropped, I don’t see it working on the huge Eurovision stage. I have my fingers crossed for her but it will be very tough to qualify.
