In Turin last year, Ochamn brought Poland back to the Eurovision grand final for the first time since 2017. That seems to have sparked a passion for the contest once again in the country, as national broadcaster TVP has received “massive interest” in their national final for Eurovision 2023. As a result, the deadline for submissions has been extended by an extra month.
Since Ochman’s entry “River” was chosen through a national final in 2022, TVP has decided to once again organise Tu bije Serce Europy – Wybieramy hit na Eurowizję (The heart of Europe beats here – We choose a hit for Eurovision). The Polish audience will again have a say in who represents them at Eurovision.
Originally, the submission period for acts who wish to participate in the national final was to end this Sunday 15 January. The list of ten finalists was then supposed to be released on 25 January.
However, due to “massive interest”, the deadline for willing artists has been extended all the way until 10 February. TVP also mention that this is for “meeting the expectations of young artists”. The names of the finalists are now due to be announced by 15 February – TVP will have to be quick in making decisions.
Tu bije Serce Europy 2023: Rumoured acts
According to eurowizija.org, there are a number of acts who have teased their willingness to take part at the Polish Eurovision selection this year.
The list of artists includes singer Blanka Stajkow. She competed in Poland’s Next Top Model, where the judges told her she was “too sexy” for working as a model. Since then, she’ released a few songs and wants to establish herself even more as a singer.
Kuba Szmajkowski, who competed in the Polish selection last year with “Lovesick”, has also allegedly applied again for the 2023 selection.
Other acts who are rumoured to have submitted a song include MaRina, who mixes contemporary beats with pop, rock band Felivers, and newcomer Juli Chan, whose song “Joe Le Taxi” was a huge radio hit in France.
Iwona Węgrowska has already competed three times in Poland’s various Eurovision selections. But she is also said to be interested in coming back again.
Last year, fan favourite Daria made it to the superfinal of the national final, where she placed second. Missing out on Eurovision didn’t slow her down, though, and she soon earned another hit in Poland, releasing the song “Never Ending Story” together with German electro producers Kush Kush. It is rumoured Daria will once again try to represent Poland at Eurovision. However, nothing has been confirmed.
National final details
Poland’s selection for Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool is scheduled for 26 February.
In the final of the show, the TV viewers will decide who will represent Poland in the UK this May together with a jury. If there’s a tie, the jury will have the deciding vote.
It has not been decided yet who will host the show. But we do know it will take part in the capital Warsaw.
Who do you want to see at Eurovision 2023 for Poland? Is it the time for last year’s runner up Daria? Let us know in the comments below.
It would be hard to top Jann’s ‘Gladiator’. Am I biased or is it really that good? Although I’m afraid that the video might be too much for holier-than-thou public Polish broadcaster
They should send Julia Wieniawa, one of the most promising young artists, check her out.
no, thank you
This sounds as honest as real estate developers who pay for billboards to let us know they have “last remaining apartments” to sell.
Bulls hit xd if they’re extending it, they don’t have enough submissions if anything. Nobody talks about it tbh
That’s my guess too or worse there’s no submissions at all. There’s gonna be chaos.
Or other way around, they will turn it into internal selection
Norbi with swedish disco song with Ida Nowakowska dancing around him.
Who should know, will know xd
The Polish music scene is extremely diverse, and it is the younger generation that will drive change. Consider Roxie, Viki, Sara James, or Juli Chan as examples. They all see themselves differently than the older generation of singers, who would never consider a global career seriously. Sara goes to AGT, and Juli Chan goes to France with a bold radio hit. It’s only a matter of time before Poland begins sending true global POP divas to Eurovision.
The Polish music scene is so diverse and has a lot of quality song writing to offer. I hope TVP realises that instead of opening the gates for another flood of Nordic Eurovision ‘hits’…
I can see the reason behind it – why there might be an influx of interest. Ochman got a decent place in 2022 (even though the over-use of special effects and the whole visualisation were… not my cup of gin). These results may have increased interest from the wider public. However, knowing it’s TVP we are talking about, I have this feeling that not too many established artists may want to associate themselves with TVP due to corruption, nepotism, and, well, close-to dictatorial attitude. Artists want to have freedom of expression, and when the broadcaster sees you only as an… Read more »
I miss Ochman
This rumored girl is fantastic, and the video begins as if it were a Netflix series. I hope they can prepare something spectacular for her in the finals.
Probably something happening like last year, where TVP originally was going internal, and it was supposed to be Daria because of her connections, and then there was drama since that’s how Rafal got picked in 2021. Which is also why the Jury and amazing staging was given to Daria to try and help her out, but Ochman thankfully won! Sorry guys, Paranoia was like the most overrated song of last year’s national finals. Daria would’ve flopped cause her live vocals are not that good. Also, let’s not forget the awkwardness of Lydia Kopania’s intentional sabotage of her live performance because… Read more »
Yeah, “intentional sabotage” xd right xd
Ochman was still a bit overrated tho, he finished above Lithuania, France and Iceland which were all much better than the Polish entry…
I definitely don’t agree. Poland was better than all three countries mentioned.
U are polish i guess
I despised Ochman’s whole act last year. Everything from the song to the outfit (a formal suit with a Rolex, seriously?) and staging (those dancers and effects) was just so cringeworthy.
Loved his voice though, he could definitely win with a decent song!
It’s a pity they styled him like that at Eurovision. He has such a cool look in his music videos.
Ochman has a great voice but his whole act was cringy, he would’ve done even better than he did with a better song and staging and outfit. Still, glad he did better than the Icelandic groomers.
On the other hand, Lithuania was such a class act, Monika was robbed that night 🙁
Why did you call the Icelandic sisters groomers? I hope it’s not because they’re vocal about trans rights.
I think they haven’t got anything worthy yet, their “massive interest” claim seems pretty sus
Either that, or their process has been quite chaotic behind the scenes. With that extension, I don’t think they’ll have enough time to stage the NF better than last year xd
They May as will do an internal selection at this point.
I wouldn’t doubt it 😉
Daria was serving last year – she was my number 1. Poland is interesting – they never sending modern sound songs but only old fashioned and for Junior Contest they care more – Why?
I need Alicja!
what song though? it’s been 2 years and Alicja hasn’t released anything noteworthy
Thats one of the rumoured acts and its great : https://youtu.be/pgs4KeaEsBk
Thanks for sharing this info and the song which is amazing by the way. Its dark, but accessible and modern. If they send it, it will be one of my favourites, if not my absolute favorite.
Is 2023 going to be the year of darkness and mysteries? Perhaps! With Norway’s Elsie Bay (Love you in a Dream) and Spain’s Agoney (Quiero arder) we would start pretty much on a dark side.
quiero arder dark? lmao
Ah yes! I got ahold of this one early thanks to the buzz from Eurovision Twitter last fall. I hope it gets through selection, it would be a good fit for the contest I think.
I knew that at least someone would drop that and I agree. Would be a winning contender
Massive interest, or behind the scenes chaos? Forgive me if I’m a little skeptical of the claim.
“Massive interest” I doubt that!
Same, I’m also suspicious.
