The best song and singer is wild and Leila Jane – funny and bizarre people can’t see it or hear it

Adgy will add a part in Irish. I hope it ends up fitting well with the rest of the song and if it does, I hope he wins

Connolly has also added some Gaeilge to her song as part of the revamp.

Leila or ADGY for me… ADGY needs to finish with a crescendo/high tempo instead of a tail-off… He has 20 seconds of time to do so.

Connolly is a destined flop song. This type of songs sounds good in a car, not on Eurovision stage.. And I just can’t stand Hawaii, because of who is actually singing that song. How can you pick a guy that openly tells media that he hated Eurovision, but wants to try it anyway, because. Idk…. His career is dying and he wants to make one last desperate call. I love Adgy’s song. But I honestly can’t even imagine it live on stage…these pop songs tend to flop hard live… What could actually look and sound good live is “We are… Read more »

Don’t forget that the late late show studio acoustics are atrocious so that will impact the quality of the live performance. Keep that in mind if you watch the live performances.

I am very well aware of it :’) watched it last year and also before in 2011, 2012 and 2013. And tbh. Singing in a bathroom has better acoustics than late late show studio.

I can see another year with Ireland not making it to the Grand Final…. my choice from this lot is Leila Jane, but I predict she can reach 12th position in her semifinal

Then Ireland would be a non-qualifier for sure. I want Ireland to at least die trying to qualifying than just giving up by sending something weak.

Fun as a National Final is, unless one of these pulls some astonishing live vocal out of the hat, none of these songs are getting near the grand final in Liverpool.

The last late studio has terrible acoustics, so keep that in mind when you’re watching the live performances.

I’m surprised at the support for Midnight Summer Night – it’s on the monotonous side for me. The production is lacking and I think Connolly’s team knows that, which is why they call it a demo on streaming services. It’s also the sort of song that’s critically acclaimed by hipster reviewers but that I personally just don’t really get. However, it reminds me a little of Arbresha’s “Same Stars” from the 2014 Swiss national final in that it’s the song that could stick out just for being so different from the others and confident in its subtle sound. I’m actually… Read more »

I might qualify as a bit of a “hipster reviewer” but I’ve got to say, while Connolly’s track is the one that’s closest to my taste out of this batch, it’s actually quite thin and certainly on the amateurish side of things, it only really stands out in this very underwhelming Irish selection.

I’m surprised too, to me it’s lacking in substance and impact and very repetitive. I think it would be totally lost in ESC. I’m really disappointed in Wild Youth’s offering, I had high hopes from them but I’m not sure putting their faith in a Swedish collaborator paid off, they’ve ended up with three minutes of blandness that never quite takes off. Of the six Wild is probably the one I like most, the video helps a lot but again could see it getting lost on the stage. TBH, I think all six songs are missing something, I’m not against… Read more »

Midnight would be a decent entry, and not blemish Ireland’s reputation. Adgy is typical eurofan nonsense that will die horribly when it comes into contact with the general public in May.

But I have to say yet another weak selection. I’m personally struggling to find a song I like, even like from any of the selections so far. Maybe 2? But Jerry Heil is gone, so only Arcadia left with Spain. Hoping Italy, Sweden and the internals will save this year.

Its nice to see what others are thinking of the songs in my country’s selection. I agree with the top two, atm I dont have a preference between Connolly and Adgy as theyre going for different genres that I happen to like. In terms of the song ive listened to more, its Adgy. Its the type of song I’d listen to, Connolly is also promising though and I’ll probably vote both of them. I will say, even though I share the thoughts of many in that Wild Youths song is very “written for Eurovision” and probably shouldn’t be selected given… Read more »

Adgy’s song sounds like it came straight from 2015, in the worst way possible. We’ve heard songs like these thousands of times, it won’t make an impact at Eurovision.

Connolly, on the other hand, could be Ireland’s answer to Blanche. Her song feels authentic, raw and unique. The undiscovered 18-year-old making songs in her bedroom will storm Liverpool and land Ireland a solid result in the Grand Final.

Adgy all the way, but I also would love to see Leila Jane perform Wild at Eurovision! Connolly’s song just doesn’t do it for me. Way too repetitive and boring in my opinion, but she’s only 17….she has plenty of time to refine and come back later.

In fairness I don’t think your average ESC fan would go for something like this so last place doesn’t surprise me. I can’t help but feel that someone in RTÉ desperately wanted to tick a diversity box. They like doing that even if there is no talent behind it.

K Muni and ND. I don’t feel strongly about any of them, but this is the most different from anything Ireland have ever sent before. It could change perception, even a little, of what type of song is welcome.

Betting is a problem everywhere not just here.

I’m just saying, every year in the odds Ireland has always been below 20, to be at 8th is somewhat promising for atleast qualification.
It’s early days of course but with most NFs showcasing their songs, people have a good idea of who will be representing whichever country.

I like almost them all. The only one I actually don’t like is Public Image Ltd. Apart from that it’s our strongest ever NF. But my pick is CONNOLLY, it’s a catchy beat I’ve found myself humming ever since I first heard it. Hopefully a revamp will give it some oomph as the track is still a demo, but staging wise, it has a lot of potential. ADGY would be my second choice, but if a bop I just hope he’s able to sing it live, and I hope he isn’t wooden performing it ala Ryan Dolan singing a dance… Read more »

Ireland has taken a step forward with this selection compared to last year and all the songs apart from Johnny Rotten’s entry are respectable contenders.. I really like Adgy but I think it will not transfer well to the stage(especially the Late Late stage). I think Connoly will be the best song for Eurovision. Irish lyrics have been added to Connoly’s song in the revamp which makes it more endearing.

Colin

Connolly… with a revamp. It’s interesting how a country that won seven times before struggles to find six very competitive songs. The Irish selection should be on the level of UMK regarding production values and marketing. This is a more diverse selection than last year, and I don’t find any of the songs bad, but they all need a post-production tweak.

I’ve never heard of Wild Youth, their background sounds promising but their song is bland and clichéd. I can imagine how they might think “yeah this is awesome”, but is this typical of their back catalogue? Or is this just something that’s been handed to them rather something more authentic? And how are they live?

Im hoping for Adgy based on the current studio tracks. Its the one im listening the most. CONNOLLY is good, but i hope the revamp make it less repetitive and borrows less from songs like Coldplay – Clocks and David Guetta Feat. Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over. Leila Jane sounds good, but i feel it needs to be a bit more impactful. Anyways im very curious to see all songs with stagings and performed live.

Adgy’s song is VERY catchy and with the right staging, it COULD become a summer dance HIT! This is the one that stands out the most and COULD qualify. I think it depends on how it’s done.

I also have a soft spot for ‘Hawaii’ because of how different that one is and the meaning of the song, in addition to the humerous idea of Johnny Rotten representing Ireland!
