The Busker interview

All the way from Malta, the saxophone-wielding trio The Busker have arrived in Liverpool for Eurovision 2023. The “Dance (Our Own Party)” singers sat down with us in the LUSH Liverpool Lounge to chat all things Eurovision.

From featuring in the legendary soap opera “Neighbours” to their chances of qualification at Eurovision, Dav Jr, Jean Paul and Sean spilled all the tea with our William. Check out their interview below!

Malta’s The Busker “Dance (Our Own Party)” — Interview after Eurovision 2023 first rehearsal

Dav Jr, Jean Paul and Sean were feeling confident after first rehearsals. They were mostly satisfied with their second run through, although they did find some flaws on the third one which they were sure to correct for the second rehearsal.

The Maltese band are ready to beat the odds and advance to the final: “We want to beat the narrative of the death slot”. Performing a number 2, they’ll have to dance through the running order to get to the finale.

Malta has mostly kept their national final’s performance idea, but have elevated it with several additions. Also, the guys’ shiny sweaters are now shinier! And on another note, did you know their stage director is the same as Brooke Borg’s? Checkmate!

Malta: The Busker at Eurovision 2023 (First rehearsal)

Malta’s The Busker took to the stage for the first time on Sunday, and then again on Wednesday. The band have shipped many furniture, a car, and even some cardboard prints with former Eurovision representatives on them.

The likes of Destiny, Ira Losco and Claudia Faniello “join the party” with their party hats in their Eurovision costumes. Then The Busker take to the car which drives them to “Sweaterland”. If only that could be one of the countries which voted this year!

At the very end, the guys take off their sweaters and show some new ones, although this time they’re all shiny in silver and black.

Do you think Malta can make the Eurovision final? Are you joining The Busker’s own party? Do you also feel better in your sweater? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

This is the first Maltese entry I like even since I started to watch ESC back in 2009. I’m a bit disappointed by the rehearsal video, the sound feels a bit flat (missing backing vocals?) but I do hope they will qualify and do well in the final. Obviously it’s not a winning material but they deserver a top 10 finish – just for daring to come with something authentic after years of plastic entries from Malta.

This actually deserves to qualify. Whoever decided to put them in death spot over Ireland or Azerbaijan shouldn’t be part of group deciding running order in future

I agree, but now I’m confident that they’ll make it through regardless

Praying for both Malta and Armenia to defeat the death spot curse

Honestly i think second place for the producers is only strategic, second place is the best place to put a song that is not going to qualify because there is norway in first and serbia in third. Producers know that malta is not going to qualify so they put it at second place, and honestly i think they are right cause Malta is very boring.

they are adorable and fun. I feel sorry for them to be in SF1 and spot n2. I wish they were participating in SF2 instead.

Following all Wiwi’s posts I particularly noticed that when posts are about some countries/singers there are literally hundreds (well almost) if comments but then Malta comes up (and a few other countries) and they are completely ignored by the fandom.

You are right. Malta is practically irrelevant and without jury its definitely harder
