On Saturday the race to become the next queen of kings of Norway and succeed Alessandra in Eurovision begins, as the first semi-final gets underway in Melodi Grand Prix 2024.

Ahead of the first MGP semi-final, we asked our readers to vote for which act they think should win. And now, the results are in.

KEiiNO a favourite to win Melodi Grand Prix 2024

They won the public vote in Eurovision back in 2019, and this year they have damdiggida’ed their way into the hearts of our readers. KEiiNO and their 90’s inspired uptempo song “Damdiggida” from semi-final 3 came out on top in our poll of all 18 acts, where they picked up a grand total of 570 votes – that’s 22.34% of the votes.

Another Eurovision alumni in Margaret Berger and “Oblivion” from semi-final 1 takes second place with 453 votes or 17.75% of all votes cast.

Third place goes to Gåte and “Ulveham” from semi-final 2 with 335 votes or 13.13%, which means that the three favourites sweep up more than half of the votes combined.

But if you filter the poll and look solely at the votes coming from Norway – the people who actually decide the winner – it’s a different result with Gåte coming out on top and Margaret Berger and KEiiNO in second and third place respectively.

MGP 2024: Result of the winners poll

  1. KEiiNO – “Damdiggida” – 22.34% – 570 votes
  2. Margaret Berger – “Oblivion” – 17.75% – 453 votes
  3. Gåte – “Ulveham” – 13.13% – 335 votes
  4. MIIA – “Green Lights” – 7.88% – 201 votes
  5. Super Rob & Erika Norwich – “My AI” – 7.84% – 200 votes
  6. Farida – “Heartache” – 4.90% – 125 votes
  7. Ingrid Jasmin – “Eya” – 4.58% – 117 votes
  8. MILEO – “You´re Mine” – 4.35% – 111 votes
  9. GOTHMINISTER – “We Come Alive” – 3.57% – 91 votes
  10. Vidar Villa – “MER” – 2.19% – 56 votes
  11. Mathilde SPZ ft. Chris Archer & Slam Dunk – “Woman Show” – 2.00% – 51 votes
  12. Dag Erik Oksvold og Anne Fagermo – “Judge Tenderly of Me” – 1.68% – 43 votes
  13. Annprincess – “Save Me” – 1.68% – 43 votes
  14. MISTRA – “Waltz of Death” – 1.65% – 42 votes
  15. Thomas Jenssen – “Take Me To Heaven” – 1.25% – 32 votes
  16. Myra – “Heart on Fire” – 1.14% – 29 votes
  17. Fredrik Halland – “Stranded” – 1.14% – 29 votes
  18. Eli Kristin – “Touch Of Venus” – 0.94% – 24 votes

Total votes: 2,552

What do you think? Will the winner be one of the three favourite acts or will we see a surprise result somewhere in the semi-finals? Share your opinions in the comments below.

As a Norwegian, I’m a bit tired of Keiino coming back again and again. I really hope Gåte wins. They would stand out in the final in Malmø, they are very experienced musicians and an AMAZING live band. Anyone who wants to hear Gunhild sing live should search for “Gåte – Knut Liten (Live in Oslo at Rockefeller Music Hall)” on Youtube. Not including the link in case my comment would be marked as spam

People in Norway gave away the win last time when Monument was a favourite all around Europe, now they might do it again.

Even tho I really like Keiino and enjoy the song, I have to say I don’t want them to win. The song is just not on the same level as their high tier songs (Spirit in the Sky, Monument, Roar like a Lion, etc.) and I fear it won’t get the appreciation the group deserves. I’d rather see a ‘meh’ artist and song win and fail at eurovision, than seeing Keiino fail. And who knows, maybe Norway can even get a good position with one of these songs. I just have a bad feeling about Keiino’s chances…

I actually love the song and her voice. It’s not the name Keiino that’s important, it’s the overall package

Team Keiino. 2 reasons : i like Margaret but this one didn’t stick long enough in my memory compared to Feed you my love. clearly…Dimdiggida i remembered for longer….even though i don’t know if it will beat spirit in the sky. I still listen and remember Spirit in the sky after all these years, but Monument didn’t stick I totally forgot the melody… it was good though…so for me keiino it is. and they’re better with staging let’s be honest.

Not surprised that people voted for the names they’re familiar with.
Imo Margaret was my favorite when I first listened to the songs, but my favorite rn is Gåte and it looks like it’s Norway’s favorite too! A genuinely great track in the country’s native language!
My top atm is Gåte (1st), Margaret (2nd) and Mileo (his dark pop track grew a lot on me lately) and Miia tied at 3rd

Not surprised at all that Gåte tops the votes here from Norway. I was among them and I feel they’re our best bet for a very good result in May. Go Gåte!

You have no chance because the song is not easy to listen and understand by people outside of Scandinavia. It is a classic mistake sending the song you like without taking into consideration that it must be liked by other cultures.

I gave the Keiino song another listen and nope, still terrible. It’s gotta be Margaret. If the Malmö is mediocre, I can see another 4th place. If Malmö is good year, top 10 is possible.

I for one can’t believe the top 2 in a wiwibloggs poll were the artists they’ve heard of before.

I just want Norway to send something normal again.

With Gåte, Norway has a realistic chance to send a song with Norwegian lyrics for the first time since 2006. That would be awesome! Also, I believe Gåte is one of the few songs in MGP this year (the only one?) that could do well BOTH with the public AND the jury. I enjoy KEiiNO and Super Rob too, but we all know juries usually don’t reward those kind of songs.

Not surprised… returning artists always overperform in these polls. Many people just vote for the name.

But Norwegians cannot vote for their own at ESC. Look at what happened to Tix in 2021. If they haven’t learnt their lesson, they will repeat the same mistake.

Don’t get me wrong: I like Ugly, but to say that they should go to Malmo because they’re so popular in Norway when there may be far more outside of Norway who have never heard of them is not a good reason to send them. Moreover, their Norwegian lyrics may not be popular with the fandom.

Keiino’s song isn’t my favorite. If Norway wants to go for that sounds I’d suggest My AI cause it’s funnier and more camp. I absolutely enjoy Eya, You’re Mine and Oblivion as well. Green Lights is good too. I don’t like Gate’s song at all. But with my luck, that’ll be the one, lol.

Is the fandom going to want another “person in a costume who’s identity is unknown yet known”?

I feel like people are gaslighting themselves into liking them a bit maybe? Everyone has their own taste and that’s great, but yeah, I don’t see or get it.

Yeah I assume most people voted because it’s KEiiNO. I liked Monument a lot, Spirit in the Sky is alright, but this entry is a big no from me. MGP isn’t as good as it was in prior years, and even then I don’t find KEiiNO the strongest of the bunch. Far from it, in fact

I kinda only liked their performance in ESC. These 2 other attempts just feel forced. Sorry, Norway. None of the songs stand out for me this year.

Of course KEiiNO are first. They can compete with a song where all they do is fart into the mic and fans would STILL want them to win.

This is weakest KEiiNO song they have entered so far with, did people only vote for it cause of their name or people actually like it? It’s not a good song.

Me, personally, I think the Eurovision community is very biased when it comes to KEiiNO. They can make the worse song known to mankind (or in this case, the worse song they have competed with) and fans would STILL want them to win.

True. It’s especially the case with Keiino, but pretty much happens with any returning artist in a NF against newcomers.

Agreed. Spirit In The Sky and Monument were both a 10/10 for me. Despite all my biases in favor of them, Damdiggida is a 5/10 at best.
