Today the Swedish broadcaster SVT revealed graphics of the stage and lighting design for Melodifestivalen 2024.
Gigantic LED walls with light and video in all directions, glamorous party atmosphere as well as modern, glittery elegance – and a closeness between artists and audience. That is what the creators of Melodifestivalen’s stage and lighting design want to achieve.
“The stage can offer great variety and the arena feel will be elegant and festive, both joy and excitement are promised. Everyone will recognize themselves in the wonderful and lively party atmosphere. That feeling is always part of Melodifestivalen’s identity” – says scenographer Viktor Brattström, who together with the lighting design team led by Fredrik Stormby produced this year’s stage and lighting design.
The SVT Press release reads:
LED and entirety are the concepts of the season. Two angled LED walls with integrated fixtures flank the stage, which rests on a 72 square meter LED floor. Thanks to a high resolution in the LED floor, there are a record number of pixels to play with, and it becomes a fun and useful surface. The experience of the various contributions can be greatly enhanced, according to the design team.
To increase the closeness between audience and artists, a narrow playing surface is placed on the parquet, a bit from the stage, and creates alternative positions for the Melodifestivalen host. A variety of lights on the parquet further helps to blur the boundary between the stage and the audience.
Artistic and technical work hand in hand
The prerequisites for the year have been, among other things, that design and construction should work longer over time, and that everything should also fit in smaller arenas. During the design work, great focus has been placed on the whole. Included in this is everything from the content of the LED screens, lighting, Green Room and intervall acts, to the presenter’s clothes and more. For example, the design team has chosen powder pink as one of the shades that is repeated throughout the arena design, on everything from the balloons to the lighting above the audience.
Working with the whole in this way requires close and dynamic teamwork between some of the key creators of Melodifestivalen such as– lighting designers, scenographers, image producers, other producers, number creators and project managers. Everyone brings out a range of basic practical and design prerequisites from their respective fields.
– A challenge this year has been to become more compact without losing the grandeur and dynamic. We think we succeeded. I am grateful to have been part of this event and its development over the years, says Viktor Brattström.

What do you think about this year´s stage? Let us know!
“On Wednesdays we wear pink”
I Hope The Stage Brakes And The Eurowision Is Canceled
Swedish Are Famous For Terible Construnctions So It Would Be Pretictable For It To Happen . Especialy For A Budget Eurowision From Cheap Malmo ! Its Just Facts
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?
should’ve been held on Planet Bejba this year i know
superhero queen Blanka
I Was Thinking You Are Difrent Than The Rest But You Just Want To Mock Me To . Do Not Speak To Me
I Am Depresed People Think I Am The Same As You , I Am Not That Bad …
How can people write about something that barley started? Pretty ignorant comments here.. Well, all it takes is one song to send to Eurovision. And usually Sweden does it with great results. But not all songs in Melodifestivalen is eurovision material, instead there are quite many songs that become huge hits in Sweden. It’s a great way to promote songs and artists.
Welcome to Malmö in May..
Jury visions favourite country.
Hmmmm it’s a stage with wood and things and screens
The Malmö stage certainly looks more impressive which is good. Eurovision should be more prestigious than Melodifestivalen. The fact that Stockholm couldn’t host ESC but the NF itself finishes in the capital is kinda weird so at least the Eurovision stage should stand out and I think it will.
The Globen Arena is undergoing renovations, and neither team from the two big stadiums were willing to vacate for the time needed for the contest. But say Sweden wins again in the next twenty years, do we hope one of them can be persuaded, and they build a temporary stadium (like Fortuna Düsseldorf did)? Would they benefit from that?
Stage reveals are not exciting anymore. They usually look the same as the year before, and the year before that. I blame the advances in technology, LED has ruined the fun. Bring back the 1990s distinctiveness, please.
Exactly. After such a fuss about the slogan, the big stage reveal is – LED and more LED.
It looks too much like a reality show stage, very telling…
I love how literally no one cares about Melfest anymore lol
It’s not like they’ve giving us the literal last winner of ESC (and a top4 entry the year before) …
Correction: Loreen, not melfest. The NF itself is useless.
You mean in the comment section on wiwibloggs? 😉 Yeah that’s everyone..
Is it me or is it… like, small?
Not for the worse for sure, but it seems Melfest will be filled by high-energy tracks, so… intriguing.
(and yep, first leaks for Melodifestivalen seem positive !)
they’re saving up money for ESC24 🙂
I haven’t heard leaks, but descriptions of the songs tell another story: Adam Woods = Anton Ewald or David Lindgren 2.0 with a 2010s song, that usually gets into the final and then ends up on last places like Paul Rey with “Royals”. Samir & Viktor = Closer to Bada Nakna rather than Shuffla, apparently a bit 2016-ish sound. Melina Borglowe =A clear filler that will only live through this heat – even if that. Elisa Lindström = Surprisingly in English, but still that no-persona-schlager we’ve gotten to know her from. Not a contender. Lisa Ajax = Even Schlagerprofilerna told… Read more »
It is a touring stage, so needs to fit venues of varying sizes. This also limits creativity just by the practicalities of constantly dismantling for the road, then remantling for the next stop.
Is “remantling” a word? It is now.

I’m excited…to hear the songs. Word from the press that attended first listen seems positive.
Let’s thank God for SVT to hire Wieder to design the ESC stage, as this is.. well.
This seems a bit outdated, like it could be from 2009? I guess it’ll work, but it’s not that neat, eh.
I am guessing they are saving the budget for ESC
I don’t think budget is an issue here, it’s just not appealing as a stage.
The first heat is this Saturday?! There’s no hype for Melfest this year wow…
We haven’t heard any songs yet. Of course there is no hype without the music.
There is in Sweden.
Not as much as in previous years, though
We already did an article about the artists and songs, but when the snippets are out later this week we’ll of course cover it 🙂
