She came. She saw. And Sofia qualified for the Benidorm Fest 2024 final. But she’s not resting on her laurels.

“There’s stuff we have to work on, so I’m focused on that right now. I’m so overwhelmed — it’s so strange.”

Strangeness is a key component of her stage show, which was inspired by great artists like Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali.

“The concept behind it is surrealism — the Spanish surrealism. It’s about not judging your own thoughts, not judging your own creations, whatever you think or feel. It’s about all that dream world — they’re fascinated by it.”

“You gotta be kind of crazy to believe in yourself, to fight for yourself what’s correct even if you can’t understand it. When your’e dreaming you can see everything, do whatever you want. I know this is possible because I have dreamed it. We artists are in this intangible world all the time.”

But she’s very much aware that the real-world audience didn’t see all of her creation — including artistic details on the LED — owing to camera cuts.

“It’s kind of sad because…..the way they recorded the performance I feel that you cannot see all the visuals that was going on. That’s something we want to work on.”

And what other changes? Well she doesn’t want people to see her costume change in real-time. “It wasn’t supposed to be shown!”

Did you enjoy Sofia’s performance? Do you want her to snatch that crown? Let us know down below.

Wiwibloggs are trying so hard to make Sofia Coll happen.

I felt like she tried too hard to be Chanel instead of herself. And the costumes weren’t very good. Just wear the netting outfit you wore in the premotions before the song was performed! That looked good! And there’s no need for the conch staircase ala Cyprus 2022. It just destroyed her vocals going down it and added nothing to the performance, like Mae Muller’s in 2023.

The concept was not surrealism, was Iceland’s Silvia Night 2006 but with a dress reveal moment, a choreo and better make up (except for those teeth whole grain bread moment).

I know there were issues with the sound yet her staging was old fashion.

Surrealism is a good idea and that’s what I got when watching the performance. But it was poorly executed … The result was really chaotic. They need to sharpen everything and simplify things so that we can get the concept easily and so that she can sing better. Why is she climbing up the stairs during the climax – there’s a 10 seconds camera cut where you only see her back … Many things to do there.

Also the costume reveals don’t really bring anything and are a difficulty for her. Just make her sing her tune with beautiful surrealist LED screens, a little choreo, sharp camera cuts, and I’m sure it would be MUCH better.

She talks too much, maybe the focus should be on the singing

The song is not bad but the repeating of the same line “i’m here to stay” means im now losing interest. Nebulossa are so much better.

Senseless comment that only seeks to discredit, Nebulosa repeats “Zorra” many more times

You’ve missed the point!. Zorra is repeated as a chant not the main part of the main chorus.
The audience in the arena will chant back come May. Mark my words if this is the overall winner

Or an entire demographic will be alienated because of the staging.

Only problem with Zorra were the dancing men and the repetition of the word ‘Zorra’.

If you reach the point that you need to start explaining your staging, that means that your staging has already failed its purpose. A good staging speaks on its own. Otherwise, Sofia seems to be quite talented and interesting, so I wish she comes back with a better song.

In all honesty, if she didn’t say this I would have not understood what the staging was at all. If she wants to do better, she really needs to improve almost everything. The vocals were kinda weak, her going down and then back up the stairs was confusing, the costumes were not good (both the origional and the revealed one) and overall it felt messy. The camera angles really need to be sharp and so does her dancing

Her singing was atrocious. Instead of having focused on her chaotic staging, she should have focused on having singing lessons. Her voice is an instrument, if it’s not in tune, it will sound bad. The song is great, but with the poor singing it just felt flat. Sofia would benefit from having a backing singer in the chorus.

In my opinion, there is a lot to improve, in fact I think the whole concept doesnt empower her nor her performance. Why stairs? Why giving her back going up in the climax of the song? This song needs a powerful staging, a powerful convincing vocal power and, on the contrary, unfortunately for me, it was quite underwhelming. From the dresses to the dance break, from make up to camera angles, from staging lo lighting. Hope her team can manage to reorganise it all in order to empower her performance and elevate the song (not the opposite, as we saw… Read more »
