Israel will compete in Eurovision 2024. In a statement, the EBU said:

“The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) can confirm that the official submission from its Israeli Member Kan has been deemed eligible to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest in May.

“The Contest’s Reference Group, its governing board, made the decision to accept the song ‘Hurricane’ for the upcoming competition after careful scrutiny of the lyrics.”

“It was agreed that ‘Hurricane’ met the necessary criteria for participation in accordance with the rules of the competition.”

The Israeli newspaper Ynet revealed the news earlier in the day.

According to their sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Israeli broadcaster KAN agreed to change the song that was previously disqualified by the EBU.

This is despite KAN initially saying that it would not make any changes to their original submission “October Rain,” which was banned over its political lyrics.

That prompted the EBU to confirm that it has, in fact, agreed to the changed song, which is now called “Hurricane.”

Oooh the Mossad funded trolls are out in force in the comments. Obviously Israel should have been kicked out. Those of us who have a sense of decency should pick a protest song to vote for.

I wish that the audience there in Malmo behave and dont start booing this girl but I dont think this IS going to happen. I suppose Swedish Broadcaster Will use some kind of sound filter if the audience gets too excited and we wont hear it but the poor girl will experience it anyway.

The more I hear Eden’s interviews, and get to know her, the more I realize how good person she is, she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside, she is the type of person who would not harm anyone. And the most beautiful thing is that even though she looks amazing and she is an excellent singer, she is very modest. May God bless her and give her strength to get through this period successfully. Amen!

I don’t like it when artists are complicit in the atrocities committed by their governments. Is this not exactly why Belarus and Russia weren’t welcome anymore? They’d rather try and send artists who work as propaganda mouthpieces for their governments instead of being their own people with their own beliefs. And if her own belief is that her government isn’t in the wrong and isn’t just smiling and nodding acting like they haven’t done anything wrong because she was told to do so? Well, I’m voicing out my earnest disapproval of that stance, as is my right as a viewer.… Read more »

I heard an interview of Eden, she was told that the representatives of Finland and the representative of the UK do not want Israel to participate. And what she said just made me fall in love with her even more. “All I can say is that I am neither angry nor sad, everyone can think what they want, I wish them success in the competition despite everything and I would love to meet them in Malmö.” I did not expect such a response, She have a good heart, I wish her the best result 🙂

She’s right, the world media does not show the whole truth. It’s not showing the whole truth and is constantly minimizing what’s going on in G.aza because the IDF vets every single video footage taken by journalists there and heavily control the flow of free press about it. I think she should include that part.

After March 11, it is no longer possible to disqualify Israel from the competition. From a legal point of view, Israel can sue the EBU. In addition, the sponsors of the contest “MO” & “RC” are Jewish/Israeli, so there is no chance that Israel will disqualify in any case.

As I expected, they kicked and stamped their feet at the EBU and expected carte blanche. When that didn’t work, they threatened to pull out of the ESC rather than change their lyrics. Then when that backfired, they bowed down to the EBU. Why so desperate to be a part of a meaningless entertainment show during a time of intense political unrest and after loss of many lives? Surely is it not a time to focus on important issues like spending time, money and effort to find a worthy solution to the situation? Is it not a time to let… Read more »

Why did Ukraine continue to participate in the contest or other international events and competitions? By your logic Ukraine should have withdrawn from all international competitions to “focus on war”. That doesn’t work like that. A country at war still tries to maintain any sort of normality and provide some escapism to the population.

Yes, I agree. Ukraine should also have focused on healing instead of entering a song contest. Is that really hard to understand? When someone loses a loved one, they don’t gallop off to somewhere fun where people celebrate music. A normal mind wouldn’t behave in that manner. But the leaders of these warring states aren’t interested in that. They have a story to push, and what better way than to hi-jack an entertainment show watched by millions around the world, where you can peddle your narrative….whatever you choose it to be. EBU can’t ban them unless Israel breached the rules with the lyrics and they were close to withdraw but sadly the president of Israel is smart enough to understand that by withdrawing they are going to self-isolate themselves from a big event like ESC and they know well that they can use it as a PR machine so they accepted to change the lyrics. So be it they are participating, like they did since 1973. No big deal. They do have a place on the Eurovision stage. EBU told them to change the song etc and they did it in line with the requirements and expectations, we can’t dispute that or criticise the EBU. However, please note if they fail to qualify even with a good song then there is a message to them from the rest of Europe and a strong one too. Just be prepared, because very likely they might not qualify.

Some are writing here that Israel should’ve been banned because of security issues, supposedly coming from the Palestinian community in Malmö and the audience, among others.

This is what it sounds like: (1) since some pro-Palestinians may CREATE a security threat or even a terrorist threat at Eurovision, (2) other pro-Palestinians say that Israel should withdraw or be banned, precisely due to this threat.

This sounds like straight up blackmail. I hope Sweden and SVT don’t let themselves be intimidated by violent radicals. The country has already accepted way too many of them.

It’s not “Israel hating” it’s people with a conscious. If any country has hatred in their metaphorical heart it’s Israel.

I love seeing how Israel haters explode every year on reddit, instagram, twitter, youtube and even here on wiwibloggs, and Israel still buries them all. LOL Just like Israel does to its enemies. For example G@za is destroyed, it really looks like after a hurricane. And Israel only used 30% of its power. 🙂

Definitely! Especially after I saw a video of P@lestinians celebrating in the streets while H@mas men drive the body of a naked Israeli woman around the city. Israel has only just begun, the war will continue for a long time, Israel will make them miserable. No matter the cost!

Just citizen buried after being crushed. It’s not haters. A big bunch of civilians. Bombing them might make them haters of course.

Good luck Eden, glad to see EBU made the right decision and didn’t bow down to the violent mob. A lot of people here are in for a rude awakening during Israel’s points reveal lol.

Israel has broken more EBU rules outside of Eurovision than Belarus. There is no justifiable reason for them to remain in the organization.

Sadly, Israel’s participation this year will overshadow everyone and everything else in Malmö.

I’m sorry I don’t see any controversy. There was no reason for all this hatred towards Israel but pure antisemitism and unexplained hatred .
If someone has a problem with Israel in Malmo he can stay home.

I know right? It’s so tiring that some people still insist that being against Israel is the same as being against Jewish people. It’s not. By throwing “You’re just antisemitic!” around so much, the term will lose all meaning.

It’s silly because technically Palestinians are also Semitic people.

Blame it on whoever made it such an issue.
There is no reason to disqualify Israel, there wasn’t any reason in the past. Politics is not part of the ESC .
