It’s September 1 and the Eurovision New Year has ARRIVED. Songs that are released from today can be submitted for Eurovision 2025.

So we have to ask: What do you hope to see at the song contest in 2025 and on the road to Basel?

Perhaps you want a country to win for the very first time. Albania, Armenia, Australia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Georgia, Iceland, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Slovenia….they’re all waiting for their moment!

Two of the past four winners — Måneskin from Italy and Kalush Orchestra from Ukraine — sang in their native language. Perhaps you want to see another language represented at the top of the podium. If so, which one?

Maybe you’re a member of the press and dream of a slightly beefed up press centre, one that is actually open during the first week. Or maybe you simply want to do your work in peace, noting that “work” in the digital age includes things like livestreams…

Do you dream of a scandal-free voting segment? A controversy-free year? Maybe you want countries to actually be able to deliver their points rather than experiencing supposed technical difficulties?

Whatever your wish, we want to hear it. Shout out your Eurovision wishes below and let’s dream together!

I wouldnt mind if there were a mass pull out of Western nations for 2025…just to let EBU see that many of us are not happy with the current situation. Same rules for everyone, and not separate rules for separate nations..

I would love to see Turkey, Monaco and… Celine Dion back! While the first one seems less likely, the two latter seem to be achievable. I think Luxembourg proved that there is a big appetite for returning smaller countries to be back at ESC. Monaco should take it into account. And having the queen Celine as an interval act would be a huge moment. After her performance at the Olympics I am sure she is in great vocal shape. I also hope that she has great memories from her 1988 Eurovision appearance and no doubt that the Swiss broadcasters would… Read more »

Oh so many wishes for 2025!
Most important one is a country that never won before to win. Bring back live vocals. Celine Dion as interval act. A good song to win. No drama like last year.

A heated opinion/wish, but the contest’s future is uncertain as long as Israel competes. In 2023 reports, Gen-Z dominated viewership, and their strong support for Palestine and anti-Zionist views will lead to growing controversy in future editions.

If Israel remains in the competition, this could destabilise the event even further. To preserve the contest we love, the EBU must act if KAN/Israel continues to break rules.

It’s also perhaps the fact that even if Israel participated at the Olympics, it didn’t stay a lot in the spotlight there. In Eurovision it was a whole different issue: their enormous advertising campaign proves that they were seriously invested in winning the thing (for their own purposes).

The Olympics focus on athletic competition, where politics often take a backseat. Eurovision, on the other hand, is a cultural event where politics, public sentiment & opinion are more front and centre. That’s probably why you see more attention on Israel’s participation at Eurovision.

I kinda disagree that politics take a backseat. Like Qatar and Russia hosting the World Cup, or Russia hosting the Winter and Summer Olympics, or dare I say it Hitler hosting the 1936 Olympics. Much propaganda is involved. Also doping.

Axe the ‘United by Music’ slogan. Different slogans/artworks created an Olympic-like spirit for Eurovision, which is something we didn’t have in 2024. It felt more like a season of a reality show instead of the Olympics of Music – which is another issue to be fixed.

I want to see a solo presenter, the last time we had one was in Malmo 2013. Also, an international mega star performing during the voting break! Celine Dion, you busy?

I’d like to see the time allocated to reading the jury points shortened, simply 20 seconds for 1 to 10 to appear automatically and for the representative to read “and the 12 points go to…”. There is too much repetition of “thank you for a wonderful show” and other “filling” that spokespersons do, it slows the pace of the show and makes the voting feel much longer than it needs to be.

Happy new year, everybody. I have a wishlist for Eurovision 2025: –A first time winner. Come 2025 it will be eight years since we last had a country win Eurovision for the very first time and we are long overdue for it. We almost had Croatia win, but they still got their very best result ever finishing 2nd overall and let’s hope they can do one better in the future. –More countries bettering their best results. Until Croatia’s silver medal this year, we hadn’t seen countries get their highest results since 2019 when North Macedonia and San Marino finished 7th… Read more »

My bet is still on a video message. It was rumoured Celine was paid USD 4 million for her Olympics appearance, and Swiss TV aren’t going to be shelling out that. And she’s not going to do it for free – Celine doesn’t owe Eurovision anything, had she finished second, 14th or 21st that night in Dublin, she would still have been the megastar she is. Unlike Abba, winning Eurovision made no difference to her career.

Personally, I’m hopefully for a role for Roger Federer, Basel’s most famous son.

We’ll be perfectly fine with the country in question competing when the madness comes to an end and they take accountability for their actions. Just like how Germany has condemned their past actions and now get along perfectly fine with the rest of Europe, while Russia is currently out and has (almost) nobody’s support in the near future. Doesn’t mean that they can’t turn things around and make a return to Eurovision in the future, it just means that nobody wants to be around them right now.

1. Live vocals
2. Diversity of entries (that’s what makes Eurovision Eurovision): quality acts, joke acts, dancing-queen bangers, risky acts…
3. A colorful visual identity (forget the Benettonian “United By Music”)
4. Maybe more countries returning
5. Caucasus countries not revealing their entries until the very, very, very last minute
6. Wonderful national finals!
7. Last but not least: a country winning for the first time!!!

Once again, profits and EBU interests shouldn’t be more important than the values, artists and fans of the contest. In addition, artistry and diversity must be encouraged. The dark clouds over the 2024 contest need to go for the 2025 edition. I didn’t enjoy 2024 nearly as much as previous years, because of the drama and tension surrounding it.

With that being said I’d also like:

  • More native languages. English is all well and good, but it’s nice to hear songs in different languages.
  • Something unique for a British entry – how about a song in Welsh.
  • A strong, competent singer for the UK. It doesn’t have to be an established artist. Just someone able to sing live, with good stage presence and staging.
