Dublin calling! The Emerald Isle had to find a successor to Bambie Thug and the success they had in Malmö last year. Six acts battled it out during RTÉ’s Late Late Show’s Eurosong Special tonight and EMMY emerged on top.
As usual, RTÉ’s flag ship Friday evening talk show featured the acts competing for a spot at Eurovision. A panel of four evaluated each performance. This year, the panel consisted of Bambie Thug, television personality Donal Skehan, radio presenter Laura Fox and dancer Arthur Gourounlian.
The Irish contestant was chosen by a combination of a national vote, an international jury vote and a public vote. Each vote weighed a third of the total score.
You could watch the Late Late Show’s Eurosong Special live on the RTÉ Player at 22:35 CET. The show lasted until 0:45 CET.

All you anti Irish idiots – this song is going big whether u like it or not
So get used to it
The YouTube reviews are better than the select wiwibloggs we only like Ukraine and Serbia review show
News for you all
No one else does
Have you checked the My Eurovision Scoreboard?
Is emmy the same girl that participated in the Norwegian MGP with a song about witches or something? She now looks familiar.
Regarding the song, it’s interesting and the concept is nice. The execution is not so nice on the other hand. Ireland will struggle.
Ireland will struggle says you ? Did you say the same about Bambi thug ? Bet you did
Bambi Thug placed 6th. That’s what people who have a grasp of reality consider to be well and truly beaten…. and thank the good Lord too. This year’s song is just a silly tune but at least it doesn’t make you soul curdle. Why is Ireland doing so bad in Eurovision. Nobody really cares as it’s just a big LGBTQ orgy. But it’s because it’s a pathetic country in every way now. It is trying to please everyone and anyone and believes in nothing, has forgotten its story, jettisoned its unique culture and in doing so it is now as… Read more »
So, as most of us knew already last year, and it has just been confirmed… Bambie Thug, unfortunately, was only an incident in Ireland’s failures. Pity.
EMMY is not bad, but… there is a strong possibility she’ll disappear on that huge ESC stage as many before her…
No ‘wow!’ moment for Ireland in 2o25.
Total and utter rubbish – this will excel because the staging will be exceptional why say such stupid comment
One of worst Irish entries; could not even do well at Junior Eurovision
Really – I guess you’re about 14 years old and never been clubbing
It’s a political comment at the cruelty of Russia, long before Putin even, people who think Russia magically becomes a nice country when Putin is out of the picture are naive.
it‘s AI generated it‘s not that deep
My favourite so far.
There is something deep and bittersweet in the lyrics, just as there is in the melody. I like the lyrics and view the song as a tribute to a creature sacrificed by man’s desire to conquer. The song brings the memory of Laika back to life in an imaginary world where she enjoys herself in space, while I, like others in turn, will enjoy listening to Laika Party in Basel. It’s a bop but I can feel the sadness in the lyrics as in the melody.
the lyrics were AI generated…
It was one my less liked options. But that was it, not much better options.
Also, I find it curious how at least half of them had some edgy, dark or witch-y themes. It’s like Bambie Thug left a mark.
Horrible, even junior eurovision can do better than this sorry this is the weakest link, certainly not Ireland standard
I completely agree. The worst Irish entry
“Dying to try” and “22” were much worse than Laika Party.
Without Your Love, When You Need Me, Love?… were much worse than even those two
Rubbish u will be eating your words this is going big you just can’t see it which says more about you than the song
Horrible – are you deaf? Seems like you prefer a sweet gentle ballad
This is so bad. Another non-qualification for Ireland. Oh, how the great have fallen.
This is not rubbish you are so naive have u autism ??
Crap!
shut up letrina
You can’t choose a representative based on what ‘MIGHT’ potentially be ready to delivery a strong performance in May. The fact is all the acts in Eurosong entered a competition yesterday and only of those acts was in anyway prepared for it. Is Emmy’s song to my musical taste? No Is Emmy’s song a likely Eurovision winner? NO Was Emmy’s package the most eurovision ready of our selection? YES That’s why she won. Best of luck to her in may, let’s hope the catchiness of the tune will get her through to the final and if it does, at that… Read more »
This is a potential Eurovision winner actually you haven’t a clue have u ??
So EMMY with over 1.2m followers on TikTok isn’t going to do well in Eurovision with this catchy song which will have amazing staging because RTE want Eurovision back in Ireland ?? People need to think what they are saying here … this is a serious contender and appeals to lots of people – this will easily qualify – the diaspora is now bigger with scandi votes also – this is going to be big
Maybe we will see Ireland back in the final where it will crash and burn.
Maybe you said that about Bambi thug as well in fact you did – didn’t u – and u were so wrong – in fact you spread such nasty anti Irish comments your so off the mark
those millions of tiktok followers really helped reiley in liverpool
Reiley couldn’t really sing, though. Emmy’s performance sounded really close to the studio version even with the Eurosong production.
Gurl people acting like Emmy blasted Laika up into space 3 days ago.
It’s good your getting a reminder that Russians were always sick in the head and when they aren’t blasting live dogs into space they are invading their neighbours and casually killing the innocent in 2025.
Laika deserves a positive spin on her story. Otherwise she is just known as the soviet space dog or the dog they killed by blasting her into space on a one way trip just because they could and wanted to be the first to send a dog into space…
Here here!
Rewriting history is not going to change what happened. A friend mentioned it to me but Emmy could have used a fictional animal like Nyan cat having a space theme and I would have been 100% behind this entry but it is not the case. I don’t want to live in an alternative universe to feel better about this awful story. It’s as if asking 1944 or any songs talking about the Armenian genocide to be a 90s europop song to feel better. We don’t need a reminder of what the Russian government did as you mentioned Ukraine.
I did wonder whether we were supposed to think of Laika as a metaphor.
Exactly, its a political dig at the cruelty of Russia, long before Putin even, people who thin Russia magically becomes a nice country when Putin is out of the country are naive.
poor Laika ……
I attended last nights show at RTE. The best performance on the night was Emmy. The entries were performed in a small TV studio and the winner can only progress to something great and wonderful in Basel. The story within the song will win the hearts of Europe as will the abilities of Emmy in the execution of the song. She has a fantastic voice and a likability that will score points.
The concept and story are cool but the rest need a looooot of work to pull it off.
If she thinks poor Laika went up there for a party then I don’t want to be the one to tell her.
Every time I get reminded of the poor Laika it sends me into a depressing spiral of dark thoughts and anger. Yes, the song is catchy and fun and Emmy is an amazing performer, I’m just unable to enjoy it.
Same, I don’t understand how people can enjoy this song and pretending it isn’t about a dog who suffered an horrible death because of humanity.
Literally this
Nobody pretends that. In fact, it’s the whole point. Laika was a victim, and this whole song is a celebration of that innocent little soul.
Well I see people bopping to that song and loving it so much while ignoring the reality of that story. If it was a celebration of her innocent soul then it wouldn’t lie and pretend she was happy to go to that adventure and dancing all night long. At the very least it would be a ballad to go with the mood instead of a Europop theme.
Think how We Don’t Wanna Put In was a disco bop, even though it about Georgia resisting occupation and invasion.
Except that it’s not about a particular moment/element and more a general feeling Georgia had while trying to hide its intent from EBU (+ besides that line/play on the word, it could have been a regular type of song without hidden meaning). No here it’s as if 1944 was a europop.
Emmy is clearly talking about one event, not even the general space race, she’s not turning this into a satirical song like Mama Š? was for instance. It’s just a childish attitude of looking away from a tragic event and pretending everything is fine, that Laika is having fun.
If you listened to what she said / she said I can’t bear the thought of what happened to the dog 75 years ago so am imagining it is still alive – it’s therapy
Go with it
It helps
If therapy is pretending reality isn’t real, I better remain depressed then. It’s such a psychopath way to rewrite history just to feel better about it, ignorance being bliss is not the advice you think it is. This is from dystopian books to control the narratives to feel better and prevent people from thinking too much. Imagining that Laika was excited to go on that rocket to party? Like please be for real.
I think you are taking things too literally.
Well sorry for having empathy for animals. I have pets and they are everything for me. Sorry that I can’t enjoy a song about a dog that died in awful conditions and I’m reminded of it with those lyrics.
But that’s your problem ..
Even though it was the most enjoyable performance of yesterday, I really can’t see this doing well. I feel like it would be a miracle for it to get to the final and after that the juries would completely kill it. I mean it’s a very poor song.
Why wouldn’t it even win? So much negative – if this was swedens entry it would be amazing please stop the anti Irish vibe it’s pathetic
It’s not a winning song. It’s a fun bop and Emmy knows it.
Sweden would not win with it but they also would not send silly bops like this
One would have hoped that after last year masterpiece Ireland was back on track in the competition but this song is just …
Last stop semi final
I can see Ireland getting a 12th/13th place in May.
In the semi-final yeah
I agree, I think this has a good chance to qualify and will get a decent public vote. Staging will be key if its wants to finish left side of board.
Trash can song. Why a song about Laika? Fifteen years ago it would have been a bit fun. Now everything with Russia it doesn’t fit well. I of course wish an end of war and stolen lands to be returned in between existing and prior EBU members as well as countries not recognised by all un members, but holding a seat in the un as an observer. If all stuff would be settled we could focus on music again. Russia did contribute with good music occasionally and propaganda music about peace when they wanted to change focus. So this is… Read more »
I actually think the song could do well in former Soviet states that Ireland never really gets much votes from. It’s not glorifying Russia or the Soviet Union but it is a nod to their space exploration – which definitely at the time was a big achievement and something I think the former Soviet states are proud of.
It’s a dig at russia so yeah lot of votes in the soviet states, especially ukraine and baltics
My interpretation is that we hope Russia (the Russian ESC audience) never dies and that they’ll return somehow. Maybe that kind interpretation could be ok. Right now Russia is dead for what they did and continue doing
If anything it was never going to portray Russia well considering they killed Laika in the first place
I like this song, it’s cheerful, and catchy, and she seems nice. We need some cheerfulness in Eurovision.
I am thrilled about a Norwegian representing Ireland, but I was really sad about that dog as a child. So this weirds me out.
It would probably have been very comforting to hear this song when I was a child, I realize. Not so weirded out, anymore.
Some impressive self help you did there 😉
Ok hear me out. A trained dog in an astronauts outfit to run on stage to her at the very end of the performance. That’s got to send votes flying.
Animals are not allowed on stage during the contest – EBU rule.
Robot dog??
We all know that EBU discards any rule when it suits them
you know those entries in scandi selections that never manage to win and go to eurovision… but it’s a different tale in ireland
So you mean Tix? Subwoolfer? Windows95man?
no, who’s that girl with a lion song… riley or something like that
What an absolute kick in the nuts for Irish singers, writers and the music industry.
Two points I would like to make:
1. Laika Party has an Irish writer
2. The Irish public voted Emmy as their winner so it doesn’t seem to concern them.
One Irish songwriter out of a total of five. It’s just a Norwegian song. The people on stage are all Norwegian as well. I don’t mind, I’m not Irish, but as an Irish person, how do you feel any connection to this?
musica…have a Snickers.
this is AI slop
Ireland having a strong selection and picking the one non-Irish song and with almost no chance of qualifying. Bobbi was ill, hadcthe best song, and was their best shot at qualifying in May.
I wouldn’t rule out Emmy qualifying completely – had we gone for Samantha Mumba we would definitely NQ. Emmy could go through.
Powerplay was the best song, absolutely, but a poor performance. It was just Bobbi’s weak vocals, the whole thing looked so meh on stage. It would probably be “scaled up” brilliantly, but I don’t blame the judges or public for not voting on it. It would be too risky to choose a song that might look amazing in May.
All songs could qualify, they are that strong.
And Emmy being Norwegian did not bother jury or audience so that’s not an issue
thankfully still a song about a dog making it to esc, after the dq of puppy
I really enjoyed Reylta and thought it could have done really well, so I’m surprised it tanked so much with the Irish public.
I think Emmy is a great choice though. The song is fun and entertaining but it is also so sad. I think it is the innocence of the theme and the way Emmy delivers it, that really strikes home. I hope Laika is having a party in the sky as well.
It’s a worse version of Luxembourg in my eyes. She needs to work on her energy on stage
I think people can complain about their fav not being selected but it matters on the night – and Emmy was the only one who pulled it off
This song will probably be tweaked and revamped a bit anyway – chill everyone it’s just a song contest with fun it’s not really supposed to be all that serious. !!
NIYL was outstanding how can you say he did not “pull it off”?
All the experts all of a sudden have an opinion – they had the same anti Ireland opinion last year about Bambi thug non qualifier – the fact is wiwibloggs is a skewed audience seldom right and it really doesn’t matter what people say – millions of people who vote don’t read any of this –
Last year song bad this worse
You English Bad.
Last year song bad that came 6th???? I think perhaps you don’t have much taste!!!!
You bad English
English you bad
Me Tarzan, you Jane
That performance felt very low energy for an up tempo dance song. Vocal is good, with better staging, it could sneak into the top 10 of a televote only semi.
Congratulations Ireland but the song is just bad 🙁 Also, didn’t like the singer’s voice; it sounds like a small Child.
You can’t congratulate and then say bad what is your agenda ?
Very disappointed; this song looks like a kindergarten song :/ Dont think it would qualify for the final.
Lots of children watch Eurovision.
It’s hilariously brilliant actually
This year’s Keiino. Go Emmy!
I really loved Laika
To be fair if Norway would send this (and it def sounds like something Norway would and could send), people would not be questioning whether it would qualify (cuz it would). Altho Ireland shouldnt take themselves seriously with this entry cuz then its gonna become naff.
WAIT LMAO, I just discovered Emmy IS Norwegian…. well that explains it all. I’m actually choking lol
why do you pretend that you didn‘t know she was Norwegian when you posted it lol embarrasing
Cuz I didnt? How the f should I know she is Norwegian? Some people have lives outside of Eurovision or have decided after ’24 to get one cuz that edition left a toxic taste in our mouths.
So, Ireland went from Bambie Thug to this!?
So what?
Sorry, but this is very bad.
No need to apologise your an outlier
Why not?
This is a big downgrade.
Great explanation, tells me everything
Never thought Emmy will win.
Undoubtedly, Powerplay was my favourite going into Eurosong. However, I have to say Laika Party deserved to win on the night. Unsure why there is a lot of comments that this is a NQ, especially in a televote only semi. Perhaps an unusual comparison but the song reminds me of Greece 2021 Last Dance – which came 10th.
True – the experts here are seldom right so take it all with a pinch of salt ?
Even if the music sounds good (reminding me of Aqua band), I can’t enjoy a song about a dog who was sent to die in horrible conditions because humanity does not care for animals’ suffering. This just tastes awful to me because ‘imagine Laika dancing among the stars’? Yeah no she was sent to die only for a stupid space race between the US and Russia. That’s all it was, a d*ck contest on who would be first. We don’t need more reminders of a time when we were in a cold war with the current world we’re living in.… Read more »
Wow had to put some autotune like effect on the voice and still sings very bad lol.
I mean it’s cute, it’s camp, it could qualify, but sonically the song is very basic and is far behind the standards that Doomsday Blue set. Ireland had far more stronger tracks in the selection than this one. I’m 22, but I just feel like I’m too old for this.
It will qualify why wouldn’t it ? It s not worse than the crap that comes from the eastern blocks
Absolutely horrible, so far my last place. Ireland, what have you done ?
Aw is it not kylie minogue enough for u ?
As a Norwegian I am extremely proud of Emmy! She is also such a wonderful and talented young woman! But at the same time I think it is a sad night for the Irish music industry.
100%
Shame on RTE
Love this for Ireland! Great vocal, catchy song, clever and very sweet meaning/story. I could see this having similar public aopeal to Keeino’s Spirit in the Sky.
Bobby Arlo unfortunately had a very weak vocal and staging, cool studio cut but both juries and the public saw it.
Agree. Very disappointed and surprised how bad Bobbi Arlo came across.
Keiino had a good song and not just something gimmicky.
