Dublin calling! The Emerald Isle had to find a successor to Bambie Thug and the success they had in Malmö last year. Six acts battled it out during RTÉ’s Late Late Show’s Eurosong Special tonight and EMMY emerged on top.

As usual, RTÉ’s flag ship Friday evening talk show featured the acts competing for a spot at Eurovision. A panel of four evaluated each performance. This year, the panel consisted of Bambie Thug, television personality Donal Skehan, radio presenter Laura Fox and dancer Arthur Gourounlian

The Irish contestant was chosen by a combination of a national vote, an international jury vote and a public vote. Each vote weighed a third of the total score.

You could watch the Late Late Show’s Eurosong Special live on the RTÉ Player at 22:35 CET. The show lasted until 0:45 CET.

Is emmy the same girl that participated in the Norwegian MGP with a song about witches or something? She now looks familiar.

Regarding the song, it’s interesting and the concept is nice. The execution is not so nice on the other hand. Ireland will struggle.

Bambi Thug placed 6th. That’s what people who have a grasp of reality consider to be well and truly beaten…. and thank the good Lord too. This year’s song is just a silly tune but at least it doesn’t make you soul curdle. Why is Ireland doing so bad in Eurovision. Nobody really cares as it’s just a big LGBTQ orgy. But it’s because it’s a pathetic country in every way now. It is trying to please everyone and anyone and believes in nothing, has forgotten its story, jettisoned its unique culture and in doing so it is now as… Read more »

So, as most of us knew already last year, and it has just been confirmed… Bambie Thug, unfortunately, was only an incident in Ireland’s failures. Pity.

EMMY is not bad, but… there is a strong possibility she’ll disappear on that huge ESC stage as many before her…

No ‘wow!’ moment for Ireland in 2o25.

There is something deep and bittersweet in the lyrics, just as there is in the melody. I like the lyrics and view the song as a tribute to a creature sacrificed by man’s desire to conquer. The song brings the memory of Laika back to life in an imaginary world where she enjoys herself in space, while I, like others in turn, will enjoy listening to Laika Party in Basel. It’s a bop but I can feel the sadness in the lyrics as in the melody.

Also, I find it curious how at least half of them had some edgy, dark or witch-y themes. It’s like Bambie Thug left a mark.

You can’t choose a representative based on what ‘MIGHT’ potentially be ready to delivery a strong performance in May. The fact is all the acts in Eurosong entered a competition yesterday and only of those acts was in anyway prepared for it. Is Emmy’s song to my musical taste? No Is Emmy’s song a likely Eurovision winner? NO Was Emmy’s package the most eurovision ready of our selection? YES That’s why she won. Best of luck to her in may, let’s hope the catchiness of the tune will get her through to the final and if it does, at that… Read more »

So EMMY with over 1.2m followers on TikTok isn’t going to do well in Eurovision with this catchy song which will have amazing staging because RTE want Eurovision back in Ireland ?? Gurl people acting like Emmy blasted Laika up into space 3 days ago.

It’s good your getting a reminder that Russians were always sick in the head and when they aren’t blasting live dogs into space they are invading their neighbours and casually killing the innocent in 2025.

Laika deserves a positive spin on her story. Otherwise she is just known as the soviet space dog or the dog they killed by blasting her into space on a one way trip just because they could and wanted to be the first to send a dog into space…

Rewriting history is not going to change what happened. A friend mentioned it to me but Emmy could have used a fictional animal like Nyan cat having a space theme and I would have been 100% behind this entry but it is not the case. I don’t want to live in an alternative universe to feel better about this awful story. It’s as if asking 1944 or any songs talking about the Armenian genocide to be a 90s europop song to feel better. We don’t need a reminder of what the Russian government did as you mentioned Ukraine.

I attended last nights show at RTE. The best performance on the night was Emmy. The entries were performed in a small TV studio and the winner can only progress to something great and wonderful in Basel. The story within the song will win the hearts of Europe as will the abilities of Emmy in the execution of the song. She has a fantastic voice and a likability that will score points.

Well I see people bopping to that song and loving it so much while ignoring the reality of that story. If it was a celebration of her innocent soul then it wouldn’t lie and pretend she was happy to go to that adventure and dancing all night long. At the very least it would be a ballad to go with the mood instead of a Europop theme.

Think how We Don’t Wanna Put In was a disco bop, even though it about Georgia resisting occupation and invasion.

Reply to  Azuro

Except that it’s not about a particular moment/element and more a general feeling Georgia had while trying to hide its intent from EBU (+ besides that line/play on the word, it could have been a regular type of song without hidden meaning). No here it’s as if 1944 was a europop.

Emmy is clearly talking about one event, not even the general space race, she’s not turning this into a satirical song like Mama Š? was for instance. It’s just a childish attitude of looking away from a tragic event and pretending everything is fine, that Laika is having fun.

If therapy is pretending reality isn’t real, I better remain depressed then. It’s such a psychopath way to rewrite history just to feel better about it, ignorance being bliss is not the advice you think it is. This is from dystopian books to control the narratives to feel better and prevent people from thinking too much. Imagining that Laika was excited to go on that rocket to party? Trash can song. Why a song about Laika? Fifteen years ago it would have been a bit fun. Now everything with Russia it doesn’t fit well. I of course wish an end of war and stolen lands to be returned in between existing and prior EBU members as well as countries not recognised by all un members, but holding a seat in the un as an observer. If all stuff would be settled we could focus on music again. Russia did contribute with good music occasionally and propaganda music about peace when they wanted to change focus. I actually think the song could do well in former Soviet states that Ireland never really gets much votes from. I wouldn’t rule out Emmy qualifying completely – had we gone for Samantha Mumba we would definitely NQ. Emmy could go through.

Powerplay was the best song, absolutely, but a poor performance. It was just Bobbi’s weak vocals, the whole thing looked so meh on stage. It would probably be “scaled up” brilliantly, but I don’t blame the judges or public for not voting on it. It would be too risky to choose a song that might look amazing in May.
