Belgium is ready for Eurovision 2025 in Basel, and to the excitement of Eurovision fans, Red Sebastian, who was a fan favorite from the start, is the one flying Belgium’s flag to Switzerland. He is ready to bring the party with his absolute party banger, “Strobe Lights.”

Red Sebastian was the clear winner at this year’s Eurosong, topping both the jury and public vote. He secured 132 points from the jury and 291 from the public, making him the undeniable choice to represent Belgium at Eurovision 2025. Now, Belgium is aiming for a strong result in the contest.

Belgium has only won Eurovision once, back in 1986 with Sandra Kim—it’s time to change that!

Latvia at Eurovision 2024: 10 Facts about Red Sebastian

1. He’s from Ostend

Born on May 13, 1999, Seppe Herreman hails from Ostend, the largest city on the Belgian coast, located in the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It was in Ostend that Red Sebastian began his musical journey, starting his music studies at the young age of 7.

2. Lady Gaga was a huge inspiration

Many artists have influenced Red Sebastian throughout his journey, but Lady Gaga was one of his first major inspirations. More than just being a fan of her music, Lady Gaga’s songs and live performances motivated him to start studying piano.

3. He went to Belgium’s Got Talent

At just 13 years old, Red Sebastian secretly signed up for Belgium’s Got Talent—without even telling his parents! His bold move paid off, as he impressed the selection committee and secured a spot on the show. During his time on the competition, he wowed the audience with a reinterpretation of Christina Aguilera’s hits, showcasing his vocal talent and stage presence. He made it to the finals.

4. He studied at KASK

As Red Sebastian’s talent outgrew what his city could offer, he took his music studies to the next level at KASK, the Royal Conservatoire of Ghent. There, he spent five years pursuing a Vocal Performance program.

5. He has experience with music shows

In addition to his appearance on Belgium’s Got Talent, Red Sebastian further honed his skills in televised music competitions with his participation in the Sing Again program. This new music show debuted in Belgium in 2024 on VTM, offering Sebastian another platform to showcase his outstanding talent. He impressed the judges and audience alike, making it to the finals with a powerful performance of “The Show Must Go On” by Queen.

6. He’s a big fan of pop music

During his time at KASK, he focused on Pop Music, drawing deep inspiration from artists like Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, and Bruno Mars, whose styles influenced his own musical direction.

7. He has a debut album already

Red Sebastian has been officially active in music since 2019, but his first recorded single, “Embrace Me,” was released in April 2021. Following that, he dropped multiple singles, culminating in his debut album, You, which came out in November 2021. Both “Embrace Me” and the title track “You” have become some of his most well-known songs. Additionally, his 2021 single “Keep Going Back to You” was another successful release, even though it wasn’t featured on the album. Among his recent work, his 2024 single “In Your Eyes” was also well received, continuing to solidify his place in the music scene.

8. Eurosong brought him a contract in the Netherlands

After his first performance at Belgium’s national selection, Eurosong, Red Sebastian’s impressive vocal and songwriting skills caught the attention of industry professionals, leading to a significant opportunity. Following his success at Eurosong, he signed with CNR Records, a major Dutch music label.

9. He took lessons from a former Eurovision contestant

Among the key figures who helped Red Sebastian shape his musical career and provided him with valuable lessons is Gustaph, who represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023. Another big name in his musical journey is the Surinamese-Dutch singer Ibernice MacBean, with whom he has also worked closely.

10. A crab inspired his stage name

You might wonder how Red Sebastian chose his stage name… The truth behind it is quite charming: it was inspired by a crab—but not just any crab. The name comes from Sebastian, the beloved crab character from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. The singer was especially fond of Sebastian during his childhood.
