The wait is finally over. Georgia is the last country to reveal its artist for Eurovision 2025, officially completing this year’s line-up.
Last year, Nutsa Buzaladze brought fire and passion to the Eurovision stage for Georgia. Now, the country is ready to turn the page and introduce its next representative for Eurovision 2025 — Mariam Shengelia.
The 22-year-old artist will represent the country with the song “Freedom.” The song was written by Buka Kartozia and Keti Gabisiani, with the arrangement done by Giga Kukhianidze. The official music video was directed by Kakha Bukhrashvili.
Mariam Shengelia – “Freedom” (Georgia Eurovision 2025)
Mariam Shengelia’s Eurovision 2025 entry is a powerful blend of Georgian musical elements, seamlessly weaving tradition with modern sounds. The song, performed in both Georgian and English, carries a deep message of freedom, homeland, and hope.
Opening with the word “freedom” in Georgian, the lyrics paint a poetic picture of nature and identity. Mariam sings of the scent of grass, the dew of the sky, and the thirst for freedom, drawing a heartfelt connection between her homeland and the human spirit. The song expresses a deep love for Georgia, describing it as the only homeland carried in the heart, much like the warmth of the sun illuminating the mountains and seas.
As the song progresses, its lyrics convey hope and determination, following the road ahead with faith. The imagery of a blue and cloudless sky, a calm yet turbulent sea, reinforces the emotional depth of the song. The lyrics emphasize a pure and unwavering love for freedom and homeland, with Mariam declaring that she seeks no other wealth.
About Mariam Shengelia
She first stepped into the spotlight at just 14 years old, making her debut on national television in 2018, where she gained widespread recognition as a semi-finalist on X-Factor Georgia, showcasing her vocal abilities to a wide audience. Her journey continued in 2019 when she competed in Georgian Idol, the very competition that selected Georgia’s Eurovision act for 2020. She made it to week five of the show, finishing in sixth place.
In 2021, she once again impressed audiences as a semi-finalist on The Voice of Georgia, proving her consistency as a performer. More recently, in 2024, she reached the final of Dancing with the Stars Georgia, demonstrating her versatility beyond singing.
Beyond her solo achievements, she has already had a connection to Eurovision. In 2020, she provided backing vocals for Tornike Kipiani’s song “Take Me As I Am,” which was set to represent Georgia at Eurovision before the contest was unfortunately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
What do you think of Georgia’s selection? Can Mariam Shengelia bring the country a strong result with “Freedom”? Let us know in the comments below.
Yeah if this was my entry I’d have kept quiet all season as well
With 10-12 from Arménie, 2-8 from Greece, Montenegro and Serbia etc, i can seine Georgia border Q/NQ
Armenia and see*
I like the music video as it looks like a lot of work was put into it with the orchestra and the world-famous Georgian dancers, as well as the inclusion of beautiful pictures of local landscape.
Lyrics in Georgian are something amazing – I cannot remember the last time Georgia had a song in Georgian. Since no translation is available the word “freedom” brings me back to the h e art b r ea k in g situation of the k h a t u f i m.
Wasn’t 2018 and 2019 in Georgian?
Let’s be honest though guys, with the amazing run of shows from 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024….. we don’t have a very strong contest this year. Usually I love about 16-20 of the songs but I like maybe 5 or 6. The only positive is more acts are singing in their own language which I love!!!
Considering how the present government is in charge because they turned the last election into a coup, as in Belarus and Russia, and that the GPB is widely accused of being the mouthpiece for government propaganda, this ode to freedom seem as sincere as the endless odes to peace and brotherhood from Russia and Israel. Georgia has had a lot of excellent entries in the past, but this is just doublespeak drivel.
it‘s weird how this is being down-voted
i like it its a nice ballad
Am I the only one who actually likes this?
Yeah you are 🙂
Yes
Only + is georgian language… rest is forgettable ballad
In the begging of song, I thought that we got simillar sound song like their entry from 2007 (for me with song from 2010 best song from Georgia ), but we got boring patriotic ballad.
The only pleasant thing about this entry is that we finally get to hear the beautiful Georgian language. Everything else manages to be annoying and forgettable at the same time. Georgia we need you back in Europe. If the political situation doesn’t change I expect this to be the last Georgian entry in Eurovision.
Politics aside, the song is simply boring. I get the impression that Georgia forgot about ESC and at the last minute simply threw something out from the drawer.
Me too. But given the political situation there, i can forgive them.
And there was me, hoping for an excuse to finally visit Tbilisi in 2026…never mind. Another time
I see Marcin is being the usual ray of sunshine himself. I think someone needs some vitamin D in their A…
Thinking about inserting private parts into someone’s A… is weird.
Oh Marcin have a day off
Bond songs usually don’t have this much percussion. It’s drowning out her vocal which is pretty good. Makes me think she deserved a better written song.
Even worse than I expected it to be. But I’m happy. Now I can rest knowing that Put-In’s clown won’t qualify. Phew.
Georgians don’t seem to be too thrilled with this choice. Many are saying “Belarus 2021” given the Georgia’s current state of affairs. Can’t give an opinion on this song.
Well I will stay silent on this one considering everything behind this choice…
Sad.
I watched a video earlier of all the songs in Semi Final 1 and felt exhausted by the end of it.
I feel exactly the same way after listening to this!
fortunately, this gives Denmark a better chance of qualifying hehe
Denmark will qualify this year, I feel it 😉
I really hope you are right. I feel like we really deserve it this year (also last year hihi)
Agree, Halluuuuuu Hallucination deserves it, it’s a bop!
Honestly, I had the exact same thought. In my prediction, I had Georgia through, but not now, and that let’s Denmark in.
I’m crossing my fingers
Tiring, fell asleep halfway. Anyway, semi-final 2 qualifiers are
Luxembourg
Latvia
Israel ( Political reasons and they will bot the televote like they did last year)
Guaranteed NQ
Malta
Czech Republic
Montenegro
Georgia
Finland
rest are not worth talking about
Finland and Malta guaranteed nq in what world?
Garbage songs don’t make it through simple.
It must be fun living in your little bubble
Pot calling the kettle black
Marcin spreading joy as always!
You might not think they are good. But there is no way they are not qualifying
Malta ain’t qualifying, history is not on their side. Another last place finish incoming.
Finland lol
Don’t count out Montenegro…
I love Georgia but they’ll struggle with this.
Normally I’m upbeat but this year is a catastrophe. The weakest since 2017. It’s France’s to lose…
Yeah, well, it’s a song, I guess. I can’t hear much of a melody or a hook, but maybe that’s just me.
Dreadful… a clear last place in SF with Lithuania!
Thats a weird song. I love some parts snd elements but overall is mediocre and very hard to understand musically. Its either poorly worked or too much worked to make it stand out. I love the Georgian language and the folk part with the traditional dancers. But that’s about it. Cant see it qualifying. Good luck Georgia!
So if France doesn’t come with a masterpiece this is one of the most editions ever…
Ok, we really have to wait for France. Hopefully they can save 2025 edition.
Well, about time, Georgia. I guess France will be the last country to drop their song, which is a reversal from last year when they were the first.
I think Kristian Kostov put it best. “Beautiful Mess.” This is a bit all over the place. Her voice is wonderful. The language change is a little confusing but it’s not like other countries aren’t doing the same thing to much fandom success (e.g. Netherlands). It feels like it takes too long to get going and then when it gets going it never slows down. The backing vocals sound quite traditional and folky and I really like the instrumental production. I’m just quite confused. I think I like it? Yeah I probably like it.
Having seen the political context maybe I don’t like this so much actually.
You’re singling out the only artist of the bunch (Claude) who always sings in two languages and so didn’t really do it for Eurovision purposes.
And that’s why it’s the best!
Georgia won’t qualify with this song and that hard semi.
is this a political song? feels like it is
WHAT IN THE POST-SOVIET 90s PATRIOTIC MILITARY BALLAD IS THIS??????
I like the song very much. It’s great that she sing a part of the song in Georgian.
I appreciate the Georgian language and certain elements but the song is nothing I would deliberately play again. It sounds like the ran out of time… again.
*they ran
She’s stunning, her voice is stunning, the song is not stunning. Good luck though!
she sings amazingly, but the song was definitely not worth the wait
She’s corrupted. She’s heavingly promoting The Georgian Dream, yuck…
I certainly like Take me as I am. Should’ve been a finalist in the lost year.
Mariam Shigella is a beautiful woman.
this came out of nowhere and the song will be out in 20 min
Well we don’t know what we think of her song… because it’s not been released yet!
