It’s hard to believe that we now have all 43 songs for Eurovision 2016. This year, the national finals were plentiful — and in most cases the standard pretty high. After surviving Lithuania’s Eurovizijos and picking our jaws off the floor following Poland’s Krajowe Eliminacje, the team at wiwibloggs got together to decide our collective favourites. Votes were cast and the totals have been tallied, and we can now reveal our favourites…

In honour of one of the most controversial national final seasons of all time, we have to go even further than we did last year. We’ll be listing our team’s top 40 national final songs from the season, with songs from 18 different countries having made this year’s list. Please note: We have excluded all winners. This poll is only for songs that did not win the national final in their respective countries.

You can click on the name of each artist to read our Wiwi Jury review of the song (where available), written ahead of each song’s national selection contest.

40. “We Are Your Tomorrow” — David Lindgren (Sweden)

39. “The Wrong Kind” — Veronicas Illusion (Denmark)

Delighted that you included David Lindgren. There so much hatred of the songs on the internet however i loved it!

My number one is actually “Afterglow” by Laila in Norway. An incredibly moving song that really didn’t deserve 4th place (behind Eardrumbreaker, Freddie Kalas and a boy-band; come on Norway, really?!!)
Saara Aalto in Finland also has to be up there, obviously.

Gregorian had an awesome song but the high-pitched singer was a bit sharp live. Nonetheless, they really should’ve at least made superfinal in Germany.

Faller is becoming my most played song. I listen to it when I’m out running. I Still have no idea what the title means or the lyrics – but I think it means “run faster – yeah stop and dance” Love it!

Don’t Wake Me Up” — Tuuli Okkonen is so unterrated on this list like her placement in finish national final. Same for Masters of Chant” — Gregorian , i don t know why with them don t sing Amelia Brightman younger sister of Sarah , her voice was on audio of their song Master of Chant with her they fili be in superfinal.

I wish Florena would’ve won in Romania, what a beautiful song and performer.
And although I don’t like Krista’s 2013 effort at Eurovision, I love “Faller” – she really should’ve made the Melfest final.

Florena and Tuuli only 31-40?!
What a shame. The best of this year’s national finals.

How can Tuuli be beneath Krista or Dolly Style?
