For months Sergey Lazarev was looking for his only one among the millions of fans around the globe who loved his explosive track “You Are the Only One”. It placed first place in the Eurovision 2016 televote. Now, just hours before his performance at Stockholm Pride, he has gone back to his roots and dropped a Russian version of his entry. Sergey works in every tongue.

The new title of the song is “Let the Whole World Wait”. We had a listen and the lyrics tell the following story. Sergey needs his one and only and without this love his heart will stop. He’s been searching for it for so long and now that he has it, he wants the whole world to wait while he lives this magical moment to the fullest.
You may ask “What happened to the infamous thunder and lightening?” — well… It’s not THAT exciting, but it still has that superhero vibe. In the Russian version Sergey emphasizes that no matter what disaster happens — if all the volcanos erupt or the entire earth is flooded with rain — he will still hold the hand of his love.

Although I have absolutely no idea what he’s singing, I feel more passion behind this compared to the orginal song. They could have sent this to Stockholm, I don’t think they would have placed worse than the english version. It would probably have required a different staging, but staging is never a problem for Russia.

It’s really hard to express in English the Russian lyrics since it is in Russian and it is pretty complicated though it is romantic=)
The song starts with something like this:

On the one hand, I prefer this version because I can’t understand the cheesy lyrics but on the other hand, I prefer the English version because Russian sounds really harsh… but overall, I think I like the English version more.
Anyway, the song sounds great in either language 🙂

I hate when people diss the role of lyricists by saying: lyrics don’t matter. I mean, come on…

Strange as it might seem since the original is usualy better than all further versions but in this case the Russian version is going to prevail for me.
It really sounds out of the ordinary in Russian and for me it sounds very good!

Though usually I prefer English versions of his songs, this one is pretty good. His voice is awesome as always. I agree with Plum, it must have been difficult to sing it in Russian as it was designed for English and he had to keep the original intonation and the rhythm in the song, which are different in Russian language. I’d say this version sounds more romantic than the English one. The lyrics are so innocent 🙂

I like Sergey, he’s a nice guy. But I’m still unsure about this song, it’s better in Russian though, so that’s a start. But he has better songs in the past.

Good idea and it definitely was done because it had been needed.
It is unusual after so many months in English but still…Russian sounds beautiful for many not Russian speaking people all over the world=))
The Russian lyrics differs greatly from than in English but it is still about love and – add to this – in a more positive way=)
The rhythm of the song is not very suitable for Russian language and I really adore the way the stressed syllables were treat. And Sergey’s voice is the same, of course it is the main thing!=))

Sure it would have! Honestly lyrics in this song doesn’t matter. This song is all about music and Sergey’s voice. He could sing yellow pages and it would have made the same effect) Very very powerful melody! But I like russian version :3
