Four more acts have been reported for Melodifestivalen 2022. These include previous 2019 winner John Lundvik and previous Mello act Malou Prytz. Also on the list is Swedish TikTok star Theoz and singer-songwriter Cazzi Opeia.

Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet has been working their sources to get names of acts who look to be joining the roster of Melodifestivalen 2022.

John Lundvik eager to return to Melodifestivalen

John Lundvik previously won Melodifestivalen 2019 and represented Sweden at Eurovision the same year. Now the “Too Late for Love” singer is looking to return to Mello. Aftonbladet‘s source says that he is eager to return to the Melfest stage.

This would be John’s third appearance at Mello. He debuted in 2018 with the ballad “My Turn”, finishing third in the grand final.

The following year he competed with “Too Late For Love” which won the contest and took him to represent Sweden in Tel Aviv. The same year he also penned the UK’s Eurovision entry “Bigger Than Us”, as performed by Michael Rice.

Malou Prytz set to make her third appearance

Another artist set to make their third Melodifestivalen appearance is Malou Prytz. The young singer debuted in 2019, age 16, with the upbeat pop tune “I Do Me” which made it to the grand final. In 2020 she returned with the uplifting song “Ballerina”, which was knocked out in the andra chansen round.

TikTok star Theoz ready to make his Mello debut

Set to make his Melodifestivalen debut is Swedish TikTok star Theodor “Theoz” Haraldsson. The young star has had his sights set on Melfest for a while now, but has only recently reached the minimum age of 16. He did previously manage to make an appearance as a dancer in the background LEDs in Samir & Viktor’s 2017 song “Shuffla”.

Theoz is known for his popular TikTok channel, with over two million followers, but he also focuses on music. In 2018, Thoz had a summer hit with “Het” (“Hot”). More recently he has covered the Swedish pop classic “Hooked On a Feeling” and the Swedish version of  K/DA’s “More”.

BTS songwriter Cazzi Opeia to make Melfest debut

The stellar singer-songwriter Cazzi Opeia is also set to make her Melodifestivalen debut. Otherwise known as Moa Carlebecker, she has previously won the Musikförläggarnas pris (Music Publisher’s Award) as Newcomer of the Year and twice as International Success of the Year.

She is part of the songwriting duo Sunshine, who have written song for international artists including K-pop superstars BTS.

Cazzi Opeia will make her Melodifestivalen debut as a performer. Aftonbladet’s source says she has a “really strong song”.

Melodifestivalen 2022: What we know so far

The Melodifestivalen tour is set to return in 2022. Semi-finals are due to kick off in Malmö on 5 February 2022, with the grand final due to take place at its usual home at Friends Arena in Stockholm on 12 March. The shows — which will take place in six cities and towns around Sweden — will also have a live audience. Tickets are due to go on sale on 8 November.

Melfest 2022 will be hosted by Oscar Zia. The three-time Melodifestivalen contestant and one of the 2021 hosts will be the main show host this season, however he will also be joined by other stars, still to be named.

According to Aftonbladet, we already know six acts for Melodifestvialen 2022. They are Robin Bengtsson, LiamooKlara Hammarström, Alvaro Estrella, Angelino, Lance Hedman, John Lundvik, Malou Prytz, Theoz and Cazzi Opeia

The confirmed line-up of Melodifestivalen 2022 is expected to be announced in late November.

What do you think? Which other artists would you like to see competing in Melfest 2022? Who should Sweden send to Turin? Tell us your thoughts below!

I think Sweden may have peaked with their Eurovision prime in recent years. It may be a long time until they win again. Lets have some new artists, different genres of music and stop focussing on who is popular within Sweden. You have loads of talent.

Interesting artist Cazzi Opeia, good voice and I think she has it in house to make it.
I’m happy to see some artist back from last years, allthrough I don’t understand John Lundvik and Robin Bengtsson for the return, if your already won and had an international breakthrough. Maybe they never break through enough and want a payback to do better

I am excited for Malou. Ballerina was a great track sadly underperformed live but I am sure she is more expirienced now..
As for John,I am interested to see if he will take other direction now.

The producers made a mistake by pairing Malou with Paul Rey in AC duel. The two had by far the strongest AC songs, and sadly, one had to go. With better planning, both could have been in the finals. That’s my theory, anyway.

Honestly, I don’t see the point in reporting on Sweden. People are just going to complain like little cry babies every single time. I don’t know why people feel like they need to hate on Sweden all the time but to be honest it’s getting really boring now.

Shucks. Almost as boring as the “producers” constantly giving Sweden preferential treatment in the running order.

Isn’t Cassiopeia a star constellation? I don’t see a problem of them using that as their stage name, even though they were creative with the name, just like some drag artists like Heidi N Closet (Hiding in closet), Ella Vaday (Hell of a day), Monét X Change (Money exchange) etc.

Not people hating on sweden for sending ”basic radio songs”. When other countires do, you always love them, and often they are just rejected melfest songs.

Ok but there were not the most recent winners, I mean Eric had won ten years ago for ex while for John it was 2 years ago and Robin 4 years ago, it’s like they had won yesterday for me. After all, Mr Lazarev has competed in esc in 2016 and is came back in 2019 after 3 years and everybody was excited for that, same with Keiino and their attempt to come back instantly after 2019 too, so why not the same for John or Robin but personally I was never excited for Serguei or Keiino’s come back, I… Read more »

Winners have to come back after exactly 8 years to win Eurovision, simply ask Carola (1983-1991) or Linda Martin (1984-1992) why.

Cazzi Opeia seems to be a good example of how Melfest can keep their beloved radiofriendly pop vein but also search for people that are actually making what could be sold worldwide as contemporary pop music. Which by the way is also Dotter’s case, in my opinion.

cazzi opeia wrote one of bts’ best songs (“we are bulletproof”) so i have a lot of faith in her. john lundvik and malou prytz are back after all their non-melfest songs failed to chart but well we don’t really need them. no comment on the tiktok kiddo lmao

Cazzi Opeia seems promising. I’ve heard about them writing for BTS but never her own music.

A bit fed up with the influencer thing. They should start recruiting new acts elsewhere. Not Jockiboi and Pewdipie. But people that have music as their main business. Search lower on the Swedish charts. Acts that hardly make it to the charts. Maybe they would be interested in getting higher up. But at least they’d be musicians.

Call it cynical, but I bet it’s to get the votes. I bet you the influencers will probably crash and burn at the contest.

A quick search on the charts got me these results. Mainly trap/hiphop, but I’m not sure that’s a bad thing. Just ask them. Not all of them will say no. Then you have some new recruits. There are other ways of course. People vote for influencers because it’s their job to get a lot of followers. And people who have worked a lot with their singing for so many years will need to beat 1 M followers on Tiktok or Instagram. It’s not fair and you remove the quality from the competition. The quality has lowered since about 2015 Junie… Read more »

the thing is, people who are commercially successful on their own with no need for extra promo would never do melfest. it’s exactly the same here in italy with sanremo. notice how when melfest regulars release a song outside of melfest 99% of the times it doesn’t chart at all. you’ll never see those names you listed competing as long as they’re huge in the charts.

Roo

But San Remo has given us refreshingly different winners like Maneskin and Mahmood. Mello never delivers the surprises like San Remo does.

Polegend Godgarina

bc sanremo focuses more on artistry (see all those side awards they give) while mello focuses entirely on show production

In Sweden it’s the same as in most other European countries: the Spotify charts are dominated by local hiphop acts and influencers. It’s only logical that Melfest tries to incorporate them in the contest, to attract a younger audience.

Call me old fashioned. But I don’t jive with the fact that people get a lead role in a Swedish movie without acting experience because they want it to feel “real” and “pure”. That’s been the reality here for too long now. A lot of people can participate in music and make it work. One of my favourite songs as a kid was the one with Paris Hilton. With the studio music of today, that can even be your bedroom, you don’t need to know what the tones you’re singing are called. You just sing them. And if it gets… Read more »

Oh please. There are also many who went to the final when they competed for the first time even though they were unknown to many, such as: Bishara, Ace Wilder, Clara Klingenström, Nano, Isa Tengblad and many more. Not all new ones come last just because they are new. It depends on whether the Swedish people like the song.
