Junior Eurovision 2023 is only one week away. A total of 16 countries are now arriving in Nice, France, in preparation for rehearsals. They’re all hoping to claim the trophy on Sunday 26 November.
Some early favourites are now beginning to emerge. Once all of this year’s entries had been released, we asked you to vote for your top entries based solely on the studio cuts.
We collected a total of 6,656 votes, and now it’s time to reveal the results…
Spain’s Sandra Valero is an early JESC 2023 favourite
Coming out on pole position is Sandra Valero from Spain. The young star has captured the hearts of many with her cheerful pop song “Loviu”. She was the only act to earn more than 1,000 votes in the poll, picking up a total of 1,264 — that equates to 18.99% of all votes cast.
It’s been almost two decades since Spain last won Junior Eurovision (although they did take a 13 year break). Could Sandra be the one to bring the JESC trophy back to the Iberian nation?
Finishing in second place with our readers is Sep and Jasmijn. The Dutch duo are bringing a light-EDM dance party to Nice. Their song “Holding On To You” earned 959 votes, which is 14.41% of the total.
The Netherlands are the only country to have competed in every edition of Junior Eurovision. They’ve built up plenty of experience — maybe this is the year it all pays off and results in their second victory.
It was a close battle for third place in our poll. But in the end, North Macedonia was just pipped to the post by the United Kingdom.
Girl group STAND UNIQU3 take the bronze medal with their catchy tune “Back To Life”. Hayla, Maisie, and Yazmin picked up 781 votes (11.73%).

However, these results only tell half the story. Things could all change once we see the final performances and how each country presents their song on stage.
Online voting is set to open at the end of this week. When it does so, we’ll also open a flash poll and ask you to choose who you’ve officially voted for. This might be able to give us an insight into where the votes will be heading come Sunday afternoon.

2022 and 2023 the same jury votes for the same countries. do they have a problem against France? their opinions are really strange towards certain countries. don’t be surprised if France wins
JESC is unpredictable. Something random will win the jury vote, and the seasoned fans will seethe because their favorites got paid dust. I hope Spain wins overall, they have a full package this year.
Spain is cute, but I think Netherlands should win. The song sounds more powerful, but at the same time it’s groovy and feels anthemic.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Heteronormative love songs should not be given to children. Assigned to them by adults. It holds the risk of putting them in a closet. I would welcome any romance song if it came from the children themselves, perhaps. Gay or hetero, if they wrote the words, it is genuine. This is children’s programming, and presenting a world where only heteros exist is wrong.

As a Belgian you said yourself you love to be nasty towards France… but anyway, look very well the social medias and you will understand from who the fury comes.
Yeah it’s true I said that but I thought it was also clear I said it in quite a friendly way. Belgian and French love to fight like a big brother does with his little brother. But there is something really mean between Spain and France and I can’t understand it. If you think the fault is from the others, don’t lower yourself to their level. Plus in this context France already proved its worth in JESC. No need to enter a fight with people that are ptobably jealous.
You’re right about everything, belgian and french are even more than brothers that’s true. I don’t know what happens really with Spain, it has started in 2020 because of Valentina victory and it hasn’t stopped and when they are really mean and unfair towards children I can’t help but fight cause nothing justify that. The Dutch song is so catchy and radio friendly. The Netherlands has actually brought to JESC quite a few party anthems in the last few years and hope to see them winning this year!
