Report: Girls Aloud’s Kimberly Walsh Will Represent U.K. at ESC

Kimberly Walsh—one-fifth of British pop group Girls Aloud—will represent Britain at Eurovision 2013, or so says leading Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.

Quoting an unnamed source close to the matter, the paper also reports that the BBC has enlisted the help of Melodifestivalen veteran and Swedish hitmaker Fredrik Kempe to write Walsh’s song. Kempe has previously penned Eurovision numbers for Eric Saade (“Popular”), Charlotte Perrelli (“Hero”) and Malena Ernman (“La Voix”).

Walsh has made several attempts to break out of the girl group mold. In 2012 she made her West End debut by playing Princess Fiona in Shrek: The Musical. And she was a runner-up on the British version of Strictly Come Dancing that same year.

Yesterday, Supersonic PR—the group representing Girls Aloud—denied that the group was in talks with the BBC. But perhaps a portion of the group is?
