Conan Osiris Mahmood Tamta Sarah McTernan Michael Rice Lake Malawi Hatari Katerine Duska Ester Peony John Lundvik Miki Sergey Lazarev

Every morning between now and the grand final in May, the team from wiwibloggs will be rounding up the latest titbits from the world of Eurovision 2019. We’ve trawled through Instagram, Twitter and elsewhere so that y’all don’t have to. Whether you’re commuting to work, sitting on the school bus or still tucked under the covers, this is the Daily Digest for Friday 22 March.

Portugal’s Conan Osíris likes Italy’s “Soldi”

It’s not often one hears Eurovision stars discuss clitoral stimulation bullets. But this week, they were just one of the topics of conversation when Conan called by the 5 to Midnight chat show. Apparently they were the best-selling item the sex shop he used to work in. Eurovision 2018 host Filomena Cautela and Inês Lopes Gonçalves extracted plenty more juicy nuggets from him, including that he likes Mahmood’s “Soldi” and that he’d be ok with finishing last in Tel Aviv. You can watch the subtitled interview below. (Padraig)

John Lundivk slept for 24 hours solid after winning Melfest

Decisive national final victories don’t come easy, just ask Sweden’s John Lunvik. The “Too Late For Love” singer was so drained after sweeping the board at Melodifestivalen 2019 that he went to bed for a whole day. He told his partner and kids that he was going to take a rest and awoke 24 hours later. He made the revelation on the SVT chatshow Skavlan which will be broadcast at 21:00 CET tonight. You can watch a teaser of the Swedish-language interview here(Padraig)

Tamta with Sacha

Last year stage director and choreographer Sacha Jean-Baptiste helped Cyprus slay their way to second at Eurovision. And the Swedish Eurovision maestro is working with the Mediterranean island again, no doubt hoping to give Cyprus its first win. On Thursday Sacha held her very first rehearsal with Tamta in Athens. The pic below doesn’t give away too much. But we do know that Tamta will be striking a pose. It looks like it might be pretty hot, too. Tamta is staying tool in a sports bra! (William)

Miki starts writing new music

Time is precious and most artists endeavour to keep the Eurovision momentum going after May. That’s exactly what Spain’s Miki is doing: he has already started writing new music. Yesterday, he published an Instagram story with Nil Moliner, the author of “Que nos sigan las luces” — Alfred’s solo effort in last year’s OT Eurovision gala — and “Nadie se salva” — Miki’s track with Natalia. He’s also teamed up with Catalan pop singer Arnau Griso, and they promise that they have a hit in the oven. (Luis)

Hatari gets stitched up

We are loving this Hatari cross-stitch pattern, for all those crafty fans who want to dismantle capitalism as they stitch likenesses of their favourite anti-capitalist BDSM techno performance art group. The pattern was designed by Icelandic Eurovision fan Sigríður Jóhannsdóttir. (Robyn)

Sergey gushes over Duncan: “Great song and great artist”

He was in Germany earlier this week, and by Wednesday Russia’s Sergey Lazarev had reached the Netherlands. On that evening’s edition of RTL Boulevard, he told Dutch audiences why he wanted to return to Eurovision: “It’s one of the best shows in the world”.  He also shared his hopes for a politics-free contest and heaped praise on Dutch entrant, and his rival at the top of the odds, Duncan Laurence. Watch the mostly-English clip below. (Padraig)

Canadian connections

Fresh from her sojourn in Tel Aviv, Canadian-born Romanian singer Ester Peony was back in Bucharest to welcome Canadian-born Greek singer Katerine Duska. Each lady took on the other’s song, and you can see the result in either of their Instagram stories. (Padraig)

Mahmood bags a major gig

Italy’s Mahmood will be fulfilling a lifelong dream come the end of May. Just one week after his performance at Eurovision, the Italian star will hit Mi Ami. No, not Florida but rather Milan’s Mi Ami music festival. He shared the news on Instagram, saying: “after years of attending as a fan, now I get to perform at Mi Ami”. Dare to dream, y’all! (Luis)

Anglo-Irish love in

Ireland and the UK may be at odds over various issues related to the Irish border and Brexit. But there’s clearly no love lost between their Eurovision stars Sarah McTernan and Michael Rice. They held a live Insta chat recently where they discussed the upcoming song contest and even did a duet of Britney Spears’ “Toxic”. There may have been a lag with the connection, but it’s clear their real-life connection is on point(William)

Lake Malawi gorge on Israeli candy

The guys from the Czech Republic recently flew to Tel Aviv to film their postcard. And while they were there they tried some Israel candy — Mishloach Manoch — which is often eaten during Purim (sort of an Israeli Halloween). It’s pretty clear that lead singer Albert likes to eat! And while his bandmates throw themselves in, they are perhaps less enthused by everything that goes in their mouth. At one point one says, “I can taste the chemistry in that…” He likes it all natural apparently! (William)

Eurovision promo ads go live

It’s just under eight weeks until the first semi-final hits TV screens across Europe. But this year’s broadcaster KAN is wasting no time. It’s already begun to show promotional ads for the event. The four hosts set free their fun-sides to the soundtrack of a remixed “Te Deum”. (Padraig)

S!sters go global

Germany’s S!sters — that’s Carlotta and Laurita — have finally made “Sister” available worldwide. Until now it’s only been available in Germany, denying a global audience the chance to stream and download their gorgeous anthem on sisterhood. So to all you in Japan, Honduras, Mongolia and Micronesia, get ready to drop some coins! (William)

Additional contributions from William, Robyn and Luis.

hey wiwi, just pointing out that Purim isn’t an ‘Israeli halloween’, as you guys said, but a Jewish holiday, or ‘Jewish halloween’ if you will. Israel is not all Jews, all Jews are not Israel, etc, which I’m sure you all know, and out of respect, it would be appreciated it if you didn’t refer to it that way.

Sometimes they post rumours as real news, so I’ll wait for an official statement by EBU.

And on March 29 will start Sanremo giovani world tour, which will be a great opportunity for Mahmood to spread to the world his music and talent. The tour will take place in Tunisi, Tokyo, Sydney (good for eurovision), Buenos Aires, Toronto, Barcelona (even better for eurovision’s sponsorship) and Brussels.
But have you seen a post about this?

Do you want another coincidence? Both representants from Italy as the same horoscope sign, the same happens with representants from Portugal.

I want Italy to win this time and of course I wish a good result for Conan Osiris.
