She’s the Moldovan superstar who will sing “Sugar” for her country at Eurovision 2021. And now Natalia Gordienko has unveiled a short teaser of her song for Rotterdam. In a new Instagram post, the singer shared a few seconds of the song and accompanying music video, ahead of its release on Thursday 4 March.
Natalia Gordienko shares “Sugar” snippet (Eurovision 2021 Moldova)
The teaser video opens with pink tight-clad legs popping out of boxes that look like dice. Then, donned in a blue leotard dance costume, Natalia is accompanied by four dancers and some intense hand-ography. We then see a frame of the singer’s sugar-coated lips that feature on the song’s official artwork. Finally, the video ends with Natalia and her dancers dropping to the floor.
“I wish your spring to be full of… SUGAR!”, Natalia says. “Happy month and happy spring everyone!”

This song marks a departure from the dramatic sounds of Natalia’s Eurovision 2020 entry. Her new destination? The dancefloor. Judging by the snippet, “Sugar” is a dance-pop anthem that is bound to get everybody up and moving. Get ready for the biggest sugar rush of your life…intensified with some MARUV-style horns.
Natalia Gordienko at Eurovision 2021
“Sugar” is a product of the Eurovision Dream Team — Philipp Kirkorov and Dimitris Kontopoulos. They’ve began working with Natalia on her Eurovision 2021 song shortly after the cancellation of the 2020 contest. Between them, the Dream Team have written and produced a number of Eurovision songs over the years, including Sergey Lazarev’s “You Are The Only One”, Ani Lorak’s “Shady Lady” and DoReDos’ “My Lucky Day”.
Also, in lieu of the Moldovan national final O Melodie Pentru Europa, Natalia is headed to Russia to premier “Sugar” at a glitzy red carpet event in Moscow. Our sources tell us it’s going to be a star-studded affair with several Eurovision alums in attendance. So, expect an appearance from the ever-flamboyant king of Eurovision, Dream Team member and “Sugar” songwriter himself, Philipp Kirkorov. The show will be available to watch on Natalia’s YouTube channel.
The “Sugar” music video will premier on YouTube on Thursday 4 March at 7 PM CET. At Eurovision, Natalia will perform in the first half of the second semi-final.
What do you think of the “Sugar” snippet? Will you be tuning into the premier event? Let us know in the comments below.
Kontopoulos finally went back to what he knows best: dance songs! I hope Greece will also have something as strong as this.
This gives me Svetlana Loboda vibes. I’m excited to hear the whole thing!
Loved Loca (I’m that guy), liked Prison so I’m probably going to like this. It’s definitely different but Natalia is a versatile artist. I think she’ll do a great job with this.
Spring begins on the 21st… Right..?
Yaaaaaaas
That was short..
Well a snippet is usually short yes…
We have some Maruv undertone, but in an uplifting tune. It sound very promising. Cant wait to hear the whole song. By the way i really liked Prison as well and i think it was very unappreciated.
This is very outdated pop (reminds me of the 2009 contest), and the english lyrics sound lame – of course, it’s only a snippet but so far, I’m really not impressed…
Even the dancing is kinda amateur and not fresh at all…:(
Lmao you’re assessing the lyrics after hearing 3 words?
He must be Greek.
They all hate each other.
I’m British actually … and last time I checked Natalia was Moldovan of Ukrainian descent ….
I did recognise that it’s only a snippet to be fair, so I did caveat my argument…
It’s too short, but i can say final for Moldova
Dentists have left the chat
Very Maruv but also surprisingly good and fresh considering it’s composed by the cheese team. “Siren song” was exactly my cup of tea so I expect to enjoy this one a lot. Well done Moldova!
Woah! Now that was a candy slap! A major shift from her song last year (and even her song in 2006). Can’t wait to hear this.
Are we sure the dream team is behind this? It sounds so current, fresh and catchy
So Greece has a better song than Moldova?
Yes, but don’t jinx it, we’re never safe till we hear it all. LoL
ok im rly into it ngl
Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola. I want more.
Cringe…..
Nah that’s the German entry.
lmao
i predict top 5 in the televote
Based on all of 5 seconds wow, come on…
no… based off of moldova’s recent televote results, the team behind her, and what i know the beautiful natalia gordienko is capable of. and that is EXCELLENCE
The whole styling reminds me of Sylvia Night. I hope she doesn’t sound like her too.
Silvia Night was iconic!
Yeah, you’re not allowed to say bad things about Sylvia Night here. It’s like totally against the rules.
Already like it better than Prison, no doubt about that.
Hopefully it’s as great as the teaser makes it look and we don’t get another “Crazy” (2018)-situation (where the teaser was absolutely great and interesting but the full studio version felt a bit flat). But Natalia is a great performer, that’s for sure so there’s a high hope.
WHAT A COMEBACK! THIS IS HOW IT’S DONE! If judging by snippet this is going to be on fire!!
Uuuu child, now this is gonna be a contender
I actually really liked Prison so I was wary of a move to this sound…and it looks like I’ve been proved right.
ngl I completely forgot about that song until you just said it haha
Sounds bombastic and we all know that Moldova knows how to do the staging!
The artistic vision she has!!! F#ck it up sis, show Vic*oria how it’s done
I highly. doubt that Natalia had the same input into Sugar that Victoria did with her 6 songs.
Maybe Victoria came up with the song titles and that’s the only “input” she had. We will never know…
Um, she’s a credited songwriter on all six songs. You may not like her songs, but her creative involvement in them can be objectively certified.
Leave this website hater!
Ok check your tone here
Sugar is the taste we need to leave bitterness behind!
Purists will hate it – more widely it will be loved even though it’s probably a bit trashy!
It’s probably Hurricane 2021!
Well, Hurricane is Hurricane 2021.
This is going to be SO good!
Say hello to the final, Moldova ???
Oh my, I think this might be right up my street!
This sounds very promising!
