Last Friday the Irish Independent published an article claiming that in a bid to be seen as more mature artists, Jedward were undergoing a name change. Apparently, they were only going to be called John and Edward Grimes. I thought it was a crazy decision and it turns out so did the twins. At a concert over the weekend they quashed the rumours, declaring that: “We’re never going to change, we’re always going to be Jedward!”. Here’s a clip of the statement (thanks to @elienze for the link).
Phew! Career suicide avoided! But a few questions remain. Where did the rumours originate from? I highly doubt that the Irish Independent, a fairly well regarded broadsheet, made them up. Were they leaked? Could it have been a publicity stunt? It certainly got us all talking about the lads again. Even this morning, 4 days after the report first appeared, my Twitter feed was crammed full of tweets about the supposed name change. Also, does the retention of their original name mean that the whole re-brand has been shelved? Or will the new set-list of “Hero”, “Little Things” and “Hey There Delilah” remain in place? What do y’all think?
