It’s an explosion of color in Malmö, y’all! That’s because earlier today the artists who will compete in the first semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2014 rehearsed on stage inside Malmö Arena. Let’s take a look at the photos SVT released earlier today and review the highlights of the show. You can watch all of the videos by clicking here.

YOHIO – “To the End”

YOHIO

YOHIO has had the punk version of a makeover: He has dyed his pink hair purple! He gave a specacular performance with a special emphasis on hand movements and fireworks. The stage was bathed in pink and blue, and there were plenty of fireballs—just like during last year’s performance. There were some technical glitches with the screens and the fireworks, but everything went well in the end. Perhaps all y’all are right to have him down as a favourite…

YOHIO

Mahan Moin – “Aleo”

MAHAN

The Melodifestivalen debutant performed her entry well. The staging was reminiscent of a sun rise, with orange fabrics giving it a fiery quality. “Aleo”, which will certainly become a summer hit in Sweden, was set to wind fans, fireballs and dancers, while Mahan wore a black maxi dress. She says this will help transmit her song’s message to the audience. We’re still figuring that one out…but long live the maxi dress!

MAHAN

Linus Svenning – “Border”

LINUS

The arena goes black for this number, but still features some strong lights on the stage. Some family photos are shown on the screens, while thick smoke covers the main stage. It is certailny a moving performance. With a title like “Brothers” it should be! You can read the lyrics here.

LINUS

Elisa Lindstrom – “Casanova”

ELISA

Wind fans return to the stage, along with a special podium. As the press inside the auditorium know, it is time for Elisa to rehearse! Pink lights and several dancers give Elisa the perfect chance to pass through to the final, or at least the second-chance. She will wear a sexy black dress, and will pair it with high-heels. Saucy lady….

ELISA

Alvaro Estrella – “Bedroom”

ALVARO

A plexiglas-cube and a dancer-cum-singer feature in the next act. Alvaro sings his 70s-style entry and moves throughout the whole Arena. He’s only on the central stage for a few seconds it seems. A guitarist, drums, bass and blue-coloured LED lights are the major characteristics of this performance. On Saturday, he will wear a white shirt and black trousers. Not the black t-shirt and dark trousers as above!

ALVARO

Ellen Benediktson – “Songbird”

ELLEN

Six additional lights on the edge of the stage, a ballad and an 18-year-old singer. Yes! Ellen’s rehearsal features her and her alone. There are no dancers, as her voice is strong enough to potentially get her a golden ticket on its own. During the show she will wear a long-sleeved blue dress.

ELLEN

Sylvester Schlegel – “Bygdens son”

SYLVESTER

Sylvester’s performance includes black, white, pink and red features on the LED screens, while he wears a black hat, green boots and a coat. Piano, guitar and bass players are together with him, with komfeti putting an end to his lovely rehearsal.

SYLVESTER

Helena Paparizou – “Survivor”

HELENA

Last, but not least, is Helena Paparizou! Her strong entry “Survivor” discusses a relationship, a break-up and how she got over it. We’ve all been there, Helena! The act opens with just a single light on her, similar to “Euphoria” in 2012. However, blue lights, wind fans and her high-heels (which for the Swedes are too high) keep the performance at its best. “Pyro Rain” was the last feature of her touching rehearsal.

Elsewhere SVT has confirmed that this year’s postcards before each participant’s entry will feature a drawing by the artist, representing their thoughts and hopes. This is YOHIO’s drawing:

@dhani: you are an internet troll. the kind of person who signs into youtube just to write negative things. did you know there are probably 100 million+ people in the united states who use “y’all” in every sentence? and if the house style is y’all what does it matter to you? go to another site and be BORED. y’all is a more inclusive word. “you guys” is heterosexist. but you wouldn’t care about that because you are a homophobe (aka, a self-hating homosexual who can’t come to terms with your sexuality). go bother someone else and let the rest of… Read more »

I like these songs! It’s not a single one that i hate so far.

And it’s ”Bröder”, not ”Border” xD

My prediction would probably be like this:
To Final:
Yohio – I love this song <3
Helena Paparizou – Also love this :333

To Andra Chansen:
Linus Svenning – I've heard good words from us about him. He got great lyrics :3
Elisa Lindström – I think a typical schlager song can make her go atleast to a second chance ^^
