The Eurovision Song Contest has been around for 59 years, so it’s no surprise that certain words seem to crop up in song titles year after year (“love” anyone?) or indeed some songs even share the same title. Earlier in the year we opened a poll for you guys to vote for your favourite Shine song. One title, four songs, four very different styles. We put the power in your hands.
In the last five years we’ve heard four songs at Eurovision with the same title, and all of them just wanted to shine like a diamond. The Toppers took this quite literally in 2009, nobody can deny just quite how bright those outfits shone. A year later Sofia Nizharadze let her voice do the shining, as did Natalia Kelly last year. The Tolmachevy Sisters seesawed their way to 7th place in the final (the highest placing of the four entries) this year with their version of Shine, but does that mean that they are your favourite? The results are in…
*DRUM ROLL*
The winner is the lovely Sofia Nizharadze from Georgia, who scored 38.4% of your votes. Her powerful voice, beautiful choreography and good looks were obviously what y’all were looking for!
Although she failed to qualify from her semi-final, Natália Kelly came a very close second in your votes, but from the looks of things The Tolmachevy Sisters and The Toppers did not impress you guys quite as much.
Here are the results:
Sofia Nizharadze – Shine (Georgia) 717 – 38.4%
Natália Kelly – Shine (Austria) 699 – 37.44%
Tolmachevy Sisters – Shine (Russia) 281 – 15.05%
The Toppers – Shine 170 – 9.11%
So what do you think? Do you agree with these results, or would you have voted differently? Let us know in the comments below!
Both her entry and Natalie’s from Austria were the best “shines” … everything else passed me by. But none as remarkable as “Love SHINE a light” in the pre-Dana International days. And the latter won … while the other 2 and actually all other 4 shine songs didn’t … and that’s says everything to me.
Her vocal performance was perfect to me. And I like the song.
i agree with davve. The Tolmachevy Sisters song shine was better.
Sophia (Georgia 2010) and Natalia (Austria 2013). My FAVORITES 😀
An good song and a truly amazing performance!
that performance and song was horrible.
