As the Eurovision season for the Netherlands kicked off with lots of song submissions (as well as the 20 finalists for Malta), we imagine the Eurovision department of Dutch broadcaster AvroTros must be as busy as hell these days. Dutch Eurovision account Songfestivalweblog tweeted Thursday that AvroTros is still talking with a number of artists, of which one will be the Netherlands‘ next Eurovision representative, with the decision likely to be announced by the end of November. It’s a big decision for AvroTros to make, but luckily we have the results of the wiwibloggs poll to give them some guidance.

Let’s help AvroTros with our wiwibloggs poll results

We earlier ran a poll to let y’all give AvroTros some advice about who you think will be the best representative for the Netherlands next year in Vienna. The top three is extremely close!

AvroTros Within temptation Avro Tros debate new single 2014
Within Temptation: still waiting for that call.

Your first place pick goes to Within Temptation, who won the poll with 12% of all votes. Sadly the last time we heard something from Within Temptation was when lead singer Sharon den Adel told us they had not yet been contacted to help AvroTros with their search for the Netherlands’ next representative. Is it too late for Within Temptation, or is there still time for AvroTros to call them?

AvroTros Anouk
Anouk: time for a second shot?

Second place is for our own sweetheart, who prefers to call herself a killer bee: Anouk! The diva finished second with 11% and only seven votes less than Within Temptation. In 2013 she did a great job with “Birds”, getting the Netherlands into the finals for the first time in nine years, and eventually placing in the top 10. The diva Anouk is, she would have been furious when she found out that Ilse DeLange (who Anouk says has awful taste in music – Anouk even posted a picture of an Ilse DeLange DVD in her trash) did even better one year later. Anouk would be a great choice to win the Eurovision Song Contest for the Netherlands 40 years after their last win in 1975 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Caro Emerald
Caro Emerald: classic pop style for Vienna?

And the third place goes to pop and jazz singer Caro Emerald, who also received 11% of the vote. Caro is known in the Benelux and beyond, even touring the UK. Her music is much lighter then the performances from Anouk and the Common Linnets but Caro Emerald would be a great voice doing something different from the average Eurovision circus act.

Two of the names AvroTros announced earlier – Dotan (8th out of 17) and Alain Clark (13th out of 17) – didn’t finish that high with the real Eurovision fans. Should AvroTros be worried if they choose one of these two artists? Or is the song more important than the artist? Who do you think AvroTros should choose for Vienna?

I just heard a Dotan song on the radio and liked it a lot; he could do very, very well.

I really want Eva Simons to sing for the Netherlands but they’d be stupid if they don’t pick Caro.

I love Caro Emerald. She would do well but I was thinking either Lisa Lois or Kim-Lian. But what is this deal with Anouk not liking Ilse.

Surely Caro Emerald. I mean, she has number 1 albums in the UK, and we’re a tough bunch to crack. I assume she’s known elsewhere in Europe? I love her, her style is effortless 🙂

@Jak: I don’t think it’s good to insult other artists just because they did better than others. Both Anouk and Ilse are very kind persons and they had both great songs.

And by the end of November :0. Really wondering who’s gonna perform for our country 😀

Why no one cares Laura Jansen? She is perfect for Eurovision though.
I am a very big Anouk fan but she is more than this contest; she was my biggest favourite in last five years along with Molly.
So, Europe wasted her masterpice “Birds” and it is not a good idea back in Eurovision, especially after Ilse’s near victory in 2014.
We all #TeamAnouk at all. Go to the hell, Ilse.

What is the “average Eurovision circus act”? Sounds insulting.

Caro Emerald would win. Great artist and music. That’s what the Netherlands needs.

Anouk wouldn’t do it again, especially after the 2nd place of Ilse.
