We all know Ulrik Munther as the Peter Pan look-a-like who competed in Melodifestivalen in 2012 and 2013. He skipped #melfest2014 and, during the gap, has crafted a smoother, more adult musical style. Is Peter Pan finally a man?

He’s getting there. Ulrik has abandoned pop-rock on “Jag Vet Inte Hur Man Gor”, which is Swedish for “I don’t know how”. We’re not really sure what he’s struggling to accomplish, but one thing is for sure — he’s already an expert at emoting. Look at those facial expressions, y’all!

The official video starts off blurred and shows only Ulrik’s face up to the nose. There’s little to no music in the background. Nothing changes until the bridge, when he unveils his childish face in full and introduces a piano. Doused in meloncholy, the song is all about self-evaluation, despair and finally acceptance. It mixes Coldplay with a small dose of Imagine Dragons, and we approve.

Ulrik premiered the song live at the “Tillsammans got cancer” fundraising gala recently. JESC 2006 star Molly Sanden and Sweden’s 1998 representative Jill Johnson performed as well.

JAG VET INTE HUR MAN GOR LYRICS

I don’t know how to love
how to become someone who disturbs, how to tickle and to seduce
I just don’t know how to

I don’t know how to live
without being scared, to be loved, to be seen
I just don’t know how to
Mmmhhh, mmmhhh, mmmhhh…

I don’t know how to leave
have the courage to stand up and go away, not stand there and look
I just don’t know how to

I don’t know how to breath
breath in and breath out, dare to believe in something till the end
I just don’t know how to
Mmmhhh, mmmhhh, mmmhhh…
but I know what I want, I wanna live a life worth dying for
I know what I want, I wanna live a life worth dying for
I wanna live a life worth dying for
I wanna live a life worth dying for
but I know what I want, I wanna live a life worth dying for
I wanna live a life worth dying for
I want to live a life, live a life, live a life worth dying for
I know what I want, I wanna live a life worth dying for
Yeah, I know what I want, I wanna live a life worth dying for
Live a life worth dying for
I wanna live a life worth dying for
I wanna live a life, live a life, live a life worth dying for
Aaahhh, aaahhh, aaahhh…

Ulrik’s been one of my favorite singers in the world for years now. I was disappointed by his year long silence but he’s back with something beautiful. The song is emotive and sounds pure. He’s wounded as he sings this song. I’m so happy it’s in Swedish as well since it brings more depth to the song. I love Ulrik but I think he should be done trying to represent Sweden. He should write songs.
