The second audition of the Eurovision Song Project, the Cypriot national selection, was broadcast on Sunday evening. The four judges and Antri Karantoni, our wonderful host, chose their words wisely as eight more acts sang for a chance to represent the sunny island in Vienna. Here’s how things went down. (You can review last week’s show here).

CHRISTINA TSELEPOU

She sang the wonderful ballad “In These Arms” and impressed all the jurors with her great voice and performance. She’s effortlessly cool, which works well with those smooth vocals. Nice start to what was definitely a stronger show than last week.

VALENCE

Born to Cypriot parents in Australia, Valence flew around the world for a shot to represent the Motherland. His entry “Scared” was very nice, but his voice couldn’t really handle it! The jurors ummed and ahhed — they think he needs better stage presence. He did, however, persuade all four jurors to give him their hearts (we’re being literal…if they say yes a little digital heart lights up on screen).

Pass!

CHARALAMPOS “LUNA” IOSHIF

“Call For Me” is the second entry for this guy in the Cypriot selection. It’s much better than the other one (which we listened to it at the first audition). His voice wasn’t very good, though, and this song crashed out. Thankfully his other one did, so you don’t need to feel bad for him.

LADY AVA

She sang “Until The End Of Time”, which is a song that describes herself, but not us. It’s trance, it’s emo (according to her, at least), it is many things. But it’s certainly not Eurovision. We give her props for her positive attitude: “Life is strife but let’s keep the fun…til the end of time.”

PIEROS KEZOU

“Said It All Before” was a sweet entry. The judges liked it, but they all agreed that he must work on his vocals. Watch out for this one.

Pass!

KOSTAS ARCHONTOUS

He sang “Steko Akoma” (Standing Still), an entry with a lot of meaning and a really positive, enthusiastic sound! Antri kept shaking his baby, but it didn’t work.

MARIA MASKOFIAN, CHRISTIANA X” IORDANOUS

The young duet performed “Sailing Ships Pirates And Dragons”. This is classy, opera and their voices are truly magnificent. Do we have some adult Federica Falzons on our hands?

IOANNA PROTOPAPA

Last but not least, Ioanna sang “Beat Of My Heart”. Her voice is really nice and the entry is totally dynamic. This needs dancers. And palm trees.

Last but not least, we just had to share some of the judges’ reactions. Love how expressive they are!
