We’re looking forward to a lot of things in 2015. Unfortunately, Turkey at Eurovision won’t be one of them. As we reported back in September, they will not be present in Vienna. However, there may be a glimmer of hope regarding future contests.

Earlier this afternoon, the following Twitter conversation took place between wiwibloggs reader KeremMusic and TRT’s new general manager Senol Goka.

Twitter TRT Eurovision Turkey Return

Gökhan, our Turkish correspondent,  translates:

Senol Goka: From next season, Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches will be on TRT.
KeremMusic: What about Eurovision?
Senol Goka: If everything will be okay, we can come back next year.

Of course, we can’t take the tweet as a binding commitment to a Turkish return, but it looks very promising. Turkey last participated in Eurovision 2012. TRT launched their own Türkvizyon song contest in 2013. Turkey finished last in the Grand Final of the 2014 edition.

Thanks to wiwibloggs reader KeremMusic for pestering the TRT General Manager, and bringing his response to our attention.

this is maybe a late comment but anyways: I’m Turkish and we would love to return, and actually we DON’T bring bad songs. So stop and sus with the mean comments

Turkey, is my home country – and so sorry that it is not change that home country -, that is why I want to see them back with a cool national final/a cool art director and a strong song.

But it is simply a dream. TRT is just ignorant. And we’ll never be back. It is easier to find a new country to say “my motherland”. And it is the UK and Netherlands for me right now.

Eurgh I loathe Turkish songs, I’m hoping they stay away from ESC. How Can Bonomo did way better than he deserved, it’s my least fave song from the contests history!

No, stay away please. Turkey always brings poor-average songs.

Honestly,I don’t miss Turkey at all except because of “the more countries participate, the better.”

I agrre that were spoilt, also after the recent violent oppression of opppsition media, they shouldn’t be allowed back. It’ll put it back in the EBU hands instead of Turkey’s.
Also I think alot of the success they had was undeserved as most of their songs sound the same with no originality

I don’t want them to return never again. They always send awful entries except 2003 and 2009

Turkey/TRT is hosting the ABU TV Song Festival 2015 in Istanbul. So, I think their focus should be on that show. But I would be very happy if they return as they add a Middle Eastern vibe to the contest.

Unless “everything will be okay” means a return of the drawing order and no more big five…
