In recent days the team at wiwibloggs has been gorging on roast pork with dumplings and sauerkraut. Why? Because we are still celebrating the return of the Czech Republic to Eurovision 2015! As we previously reported, state broadcaster CT is calling on legendary composer Ondrej Soukup to pen a series of potential songs that this year’s act will sing in Vienna. Now, courtesy of our friends at escportal.cz, we know a bit more information about when he will deliver the music and when CT will makes its choice.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW?

As you already know, Ondrej is currently composing his songs for CT’s consideration. During this period he is allowed to contact possible singers. It makes sense: as the composer, he has the best sense of the voices and styles that will fit with his songs.
Ondrej isn’t the only songwriter who is busy at the moment. He is the primary composer, but he is allowed to work with other composers. CT has also reserved the option to use other songwriters, so we imagine there are others in the Czech Republic busily writing their own songs — just in case CT isn’t into Ondrej’s work.

SECOND HALF OF JANUARY

Ondrej will present his songs before the jury sometime after January 15 or so. If the jury isn’t satisfied with what he has to offer, they’ll consider other options. Given that he is the most popular Czech composer at the moment and a widely-known TV personality, he seems like a good person to rally the masses (and encourage ratings) for CT’s Eurovision broadcast.

Despite his popularity, a number of Czech Eurofans have suggested that his style of music won’t work for Eurovision. They would prefer to see a younger composer more attuned to modern European music.

FEBRUARY

The Czech jury will deliberate behind closed doors and the songwriters will bow out of the process.

EARLY MARCH

After its behind-the-scenes deliberations (and potentially a few catfights), the jury will present its song and singer. Even if they decide in February, they will not reveal the act and song until early March. March is filled with high-profile TV shows, which provide the perfect PR moment for the big reveal.

Are you excited about this year’s process? What artists do you think Ondrej will contact?

I do not mind who’ll represent Czech Republic for this year but please make a beautiful ballad or a Tom Dice and Gianluca type of song.

Guys Lerika is not a Czech person. Being born in the Czech Republic does not make you Czech. British/Australian actress Isla Fisher was born in Oman but she isn’t at all Omani and it’d be weird for her to do something like this for Oman. Stop getting your hopes up for something that isn’t gonna happen at all.

I hope he’s going to get Lerika to work on the song with him. 🙂
