The Swiss national final, Die Grosse Entscheidungsshow, has one particularly well-known act this year. Her name is Tiziana Gulino and she happens to be the latest and reigning winner of The Voice of Switzerland. We caught up with her ahead of the national final on 31 January to find out more about her and her song “Only Human”.
Hi Tiziana! Would you like to tell our readers a little bit more about yourself?
Hello! My name is Tiziana and I’m 18 years old. I live in Dielsdorf, a small village near Zurich in Switzerland. Music has been my passion since I was a little girl. When I was six years old, I learned to play the piano and haven’t stopped since. I’ve also never had a single vocal lesson. Last Spring I won the TV Show “The Voice Of Switzerland” and a new adventure began.
Let’s talk more about The Voice of Switzerland: How has that experience prepared you for this Eurovision process?
I’ve definitely learned a lot about how to work with the media, how to act when you’re on a TV screen. This whole experience made me wiser. I took some steps in my life which were important for myself.
Marc Sway was your coach on The Voice and you also performed with him recently at the Swiss Awards. Has he given you any extra advice ahead of the final?
Marc Sway was a perfect coach. He always said; “ Tiziana, just go out there and do what you have to do”. I’m not changing that and I always think about his words when I go out on the stage.
You released your album “Find Your Way” last year. What was making the album like for you?
It was a very nice experience to work in the studio with all these musicians and producers. The album is full of Tiziana, with reduced instrumental parts and a focus on my voice and feelings.
So, let’s talk about Eurovision. Why did you decide to enter the Swiss national selection?
This decision was made by the whole team who works with me. It’s a new challenge, it’s an opportunity with a new and bigger audience and a bigger stage for me. So I’m very excited to try this new challenge.
Your song “Only Human” really shows off your voice. What do you want people to take from the song?
This is a song with a message which I think is very important. We’re just humans, we make mistakes and can’t be perfect. That is something everyone should think about.
Do you have any favourite songs from Eurovision or among your competitors?
I don’t really have a favourite song from previous Eurovisions. Every song has something special and I’m very open-minded for special songs and new songs, so that I try to find something good in every song. I do like Timebelle’s song, but I can’t really say that one song is better than another song. Every contestant, every song has something special.
