Late last night, as the Melodifestivalen 2015 bug took hold of us, we decided to launch a flash poll, giving our readers 16 hours to vote for their favourite acts competing in tonight’s first semi-final. After counting 1,043 votes, we can now reveal that heavy metal star Elize Ryd and her popera sidekick Rickard Söderberg have come out on top with their inspirational song “One by One”. They narrowly pipped “Sting” singer and fangirl (and boy) favourite Eric Saade.

What do you think of the results? Who do you think will advance tonight? You can see the results below, followed by our preview video.

Melodifestivalen 2015: Semi-final one poll

1. “One By One” – Elize Ryd & Rickard Söderberg 258 votes, 24.74%
2. “Sting” – Eric Saade 246 votes, 23.59%
3. “I’ll Be Fine” – Molly Pettersson Hammar 199 votes, 19.08%
4. “Hello Hi” – Dolly Style 165 votes, 15.82%
5. “Can’t Hurt Me Now” – Jessica Andersson 112 votes, 10.74%
6. “Det rår vi inte för” – Behrang Miri feat. Victor Crone 41 votes, 3.93%

I have to agree, if any act from this heat were to perform at ESC they wouldn’t qualify to the Final. And Molly got 6 place. wtf?!

Eric Saade won the first semi-final, but really they were all weak.

OK I’ve just seen “One by One” and I have to say it’s actually not as good as we all thought. The video we hyped over was the part AFTER the key-change. If the whole song was in that key, they would win this heat.
Now I think that Molly had the performance so far. So she’s going straight to the final imo.

I am actually disappointed by this semi’s songs. Christer said he wanted 7 vs 8 songs so there were no clunkers and I’m not sure any of these would be worthy to represent Sweden. Last year Semi 1 had 4 songs that ended up in final– I imagine only 2 will this year. Christer actually made it easy for Eric to advance. There is no other true pop song in this mix. Molly is more Ella Henderson than Adele. Daniel is a snoozefest. Elize & Rickard is not catchy enough. Dolly is for kids. Behrang rap limits its appeal. Jessica… Read more »

I’m starting to feel drop-dead cynical (nudge nudge Elize Ryd song wink wink) about Eric Saade’s chances, I must admit.
