On Sunday Latvia staged “Supernova”, its remarkable national selection which saw Aminata Savadogo storm to victory with her song “Love Injected”. People from all over the world were allowed to take part in the voting via the official website and we were very excited to be among those expressing ourselves. Today Latvian broadcaster LTV has tweeted the list of votes received from different countries. Apparently fans from 76 countries cast votes.

Online voting comprised almost half of all votes, so it’s not a surprise that Latvians represent the majority of voters here. They decided their Eurovision destiny. However, after the home-country follows a block of eastern countries: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. You may ask why, but the answer is clear: a lot of fans out there were following Markus Riva, who have gained a massive following in post-Soviet countries by participating in the Russian show “Hochu k Meladze“. Comment sections in Russian VK and Facebook groups were bursting with negative feedback about Markus finishing second. Nevertheless, the most interesting fact is that Latvia managed to catch the attention of far-flung countries like Kenya and Indonesia. Does it show that these two countries have a big Eurovision fanbase? Maybe! Eurovision really is becoming a worldwide event.
What do you think about these statistics? Did you vote in the Supernova final? Let us know in the comments below!
A lot of networks negativity from fans on the Latvian voting system. That’s one of the reviews (in Russian): http://goo.gl/KQniXI
@bavarson : True. Latvia really hates Eurovision. Look at last years votes – Cake to Bake won with 6000 votes. This year people from other countries were available to vote this year so there was more votes than ever before.
Comments in latvian websites are cruel. Only 1 out of 10 people say something good.
I think Latvia is less caring country in Eurovision.
I voted for MNTHA from the US
i’m from Indonesia and i voted for Aminata too 🙂
I think this is great. Look at NBA, that’s an American-only sport event but millions of people around the world follow and watch it online/via cable. So why not Eurovision too? 🙂
I`m from Argentina and voted for Aminata: Love her song and performance!!! 🙂
Aminata surely is the winner. Latvian and internationl audience shared a very similar view.
Latvia hates Eurovision
Aminata got at least one vote from The Netherlands, from me XP. Actually, I know a lot of Dutch people who voted for her.
I voted for MNTHA too. Not for screaming Aminata. MNTHA should be favourite by jury with her unique style. Aminata won’t go into the final as Aisha in 2010. Pity, that jury and only Latvians didn’t vote. We could have another winner.
I voted for MNTHA from the UK
