The first semi-final of Moldova’s national selection O melodie pentru Europa was broadcast live by TRM tonight, and the audience and the jury selected the first eight finalists. Together with eight more finalists from Thursday night, they will battle for the honour of representing Moldova in Vienna at the national final this Saturday, 28 February.

The semi-final featured everything from shaky vocals (we’re looking at you, Eduard), nerves galore (Kitty Brucknell’s performance was wanting), a pleasant surprise (Diana Brescan had the best show) some WTF moments (Irina Kitoroaga can rap, y’all!), the usual Moldovan craziness (Anisoara Volinschi’s dancers came in body bags), and, last but definitely not least, the epic hip movements of Epic Sax Guy.

Interval acts included former O melodie pentru Europa winners Aliona Moon, Pasha Parfeny, Cristina Scarlat, Olia Tira and Nelly Ciobanu, who all performed live. Needless to say, the first semi-final was enjoyable throughout.

However, only eight acts could advance to the final.

Seven of them were elected by 50% televote and 50% jury votes.

O melodie pentru Europa – Semi-final I qualifiers

1. Eduard Romanyuta – “I Want Your Love”

2. Diana Brescan – “Up And Down”

3. SunStroke Project feat. DJ Michael Ra – “Day after Day”

4. Serj Kuzenkoff – “Danu nazdravanu”

5. Glam Girls – “Magia”

6.  Irina Kitoroaga – “I’m Gonna Get You”

7. Marcel Rosca – “Feelings Will Never Leave”

Eduard Romanyuta won the televoting in a landslide:

Televoting Moldova semifinal 1

Final results scoreboard saw Eduard in first place again, with 19 points.

Semi 1 Moldova 2015 marks

Mihaela Andrei is the eightth singer who was saved by televoting alone during the after-show and will join the seven finalists on Saturday, 28 February, when the winner of O melodie pentru Europa 2015 will be selected by 50% televote and 50% jury.

UK singer Kitty Brucknell (who cried openly during the aftershow), your favourite Domenico Protino, Anisoara Volinschi and Raby are the four singers who failed to qualify.

With only about “400” televotes maximum, I can see all the relatives and friends of the Moldovan artists juggling with their phones!!
The foreign artists were definitely disadvantaged!!
I doubt the “2995” televotes from the Eucranian were genuine, too much of a gap, they must have paid all the call centres in Chisinau or Moldova. this vote is fishy!!
We will have a confirm tonight after the second semifinal, if the average votes don’t reach that high counts than we will have our answer!!
He should be disqualified from the competition if thats the case!!

Based on the results, it seems that they are favoring the jury votes more than the televotes which should be the other way around…

Ok… after listening to this livestream, I have to say, the crappy audio quality does Remix’s backing track no good whatsoever, and it’s a similar problem for the other tracks. Kitty’s vocals were fine. Moreover, did anyone notice the wardrobe malfunction? Those backing dancers really had to fight to unzip part of the dress near the end…

I do feel sorry for Kitty – it must’ve been tough to fly all the way to Moldova more than once for this selection and to have it end like that. She’ll have other chances, though.

They screwed Kitty over this year! Stick her with the worst song and then ditch her? Sorry for Kitty 🙁 she would have given a great performance at Vienna.

Completely forgot to watch this, but I’ll definitely watch it on Thursday with my fingers crossed that Miss M gets through. Kitty really must have screwed something up to not get points from the public, or was it ‘everybody else will vote for her so let’s not bother’.

One question – why a Semifinal with 12 songs, of which 8 (!!!) go to the Final, in which in total we will have 16 songs (after 2 Semis)? Too much of a program fillers.

Oh.. out of all 24 songs there’s only one song I find good, and that’s Kitty’s song.. The rest is pure shit to me.
I won’t be rooting for Moldova in May, that’s for sure!

Wonder where Kitty will head to now? Can’t imagine her getting the wildcard.
