We here at wiwibloggs have been doing our best Jessica Fletcher impersonations and getting in to some detective work over the past few days as we gear up for the United Kingdom’s reveal for Eurovision 2015. But just days before the act is revealed we are weighing up the clues and thinking that Alexandra Burke could very well be the UK representative in Vienna.
The former X Factor winner is in the process of reviving her UK career after her last album, Heartbreak on Hold, flopped at number 18 in the UK album charts. She’s been starring in the West End and UK tour of The Bodyguard for the past year or so and has been wowing critics with her work, but a return to the charts is in her sights and she recently announced her new EP, Renegade, set to be released in March 2015.
All very nice, but other than an EP release date, what makes us think that she’s going to Vienna? Well, some little bits of news leaked over the past day which seem to coincide quite nicely with each other. First came this tweet from a makeup artist, saying that the UK Eurovision act was being filmed that day (the 2nd March). That tweet was later deleted (but handily screenshotted), perhaps implying the information was not meant to be leaked. Coincidentally on the 2nd of March, Alexandra Burke happened to be filming her brand new music video…
To add further fuel to the fire, Alexandra is also absent from The Bodyguard tour from the 19th-30th of May, with her last scheduled date at the moment being at the very start of May. Plenty of time to do a week’s worth of promotion in the UK and then jet off for rehearsals in Vienna!
We also know that Scott Mills has already filmed the reveal program (which was also tweeted on March 2nd). Guy Freeman said in the BBC’s last statement that it had “instant impact” with “real memory staying power” and Alexandra’s previous week certainly fits that bill.
So – would you want Alexandra Burke to be the UK’s representative? Let us know in the comments below or on our Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr!
@CookyMonzta
The BBC didn’t say anything about X Factor contestants – that was Kitty covering up the fact that they didn’t want her because she can’t sing. At all.
Andy Abraham was on The X Factor before he competed for the UK in 2008.
@Xepher: One more thing: It would be quite hypocritical and damaging to their credibility to tell everyone in October that they would not use a current or former X-Factor winner, and then decide to select one for ESC.
@Xepher: If that’s the case, it would appear that they can’t seem to unify themselves on one artist (Alexandra included). If they can’t decide, or they are afraid they might flop again, they’ll consider that they have nothing else left to lose, and call Kitty (who they flat-out rejected back in October) and ask her to come home, and use the song “Yearning”. A VERY long shot, it may be; but if I’m correct, she has never performed it on stage anywhere, including Moldova (where she sang another song); and I think it was THE first ESC 2015 candidate song… Read more »
LOL I doubt it but this is a really good theory though. So she’s filming a MV and it happens to be on the same date as the filming of UK’s ESC song entry. Hmm..
Grace savage isn’t, it’s like a last year someone says its them for the attention and nothing else!
Grace Savage has revealed on twitter she is the Eurovision repersentitive for the UK. And theres a picture of her and that Sabrina person taken on that day on twitter
They have also given the impression that the artist is not unknown since last year they said we wouldn’t know the person. Haven’t said that this year soooo…..
Meh.
Lovers, http://eurovisionireland.net/2015/03/04/uk-so-the-rumours-grow-that-grace-savage-will-be-going-to-eurovision-2015/
I think the publicist has to deny it because they can’t reveal it until Saturday- there are way too many coincidences here.
I thought the BBC wasn’t taking any X-Factor contestants because Kitty was rejected for that reason lol
If you can (might be geo blocked) listen to this http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02jtrz9#auto from 2hrs16…its Guy Freeman (head of the UKs entry) giving a few tiny hints about the entry…says this year is completely different to Molly…take from that what you will…
In my head she is a known and talented artist. I totally love some of her songs. What a game changer it would be to have Alexandra rivalling the star that is sure to come out of Australia. Crossing fingers. Also crossing fingers the talent will be that of a British born new and independent song writer. That would just be awesome. Cross fingers…
Didn’t they say they were going down the bbc introducing route again this year?
Eurgh I reeeeeally don’t like Alexandra Burke, her whole attitude is awful. She was on a panel show (i think it was Celebrity Juice) and made an absolute idiot of herself trying to be a badass, and “accidentally” (ie, deffo on purpose) revealed she was dating a footballer.
If it IS her, i really hope she’s grounded again, like she used to be when she won X Factor, and she’s gone back to being the nice girl she seemed to be…
Also obvs hope the song is killer, and damn amazing.
@jr esc nl
As I said, the BBC have a problem when it comes to picking an unknown artist because Alexandra is already famous.
She is a nice girl.
i love alexandra burke! i think she would be a great choice for the uk
someone, alexandra burke isn’t unknown she has had some hits already
I was thinking Jessie J or Ellie Goulding. :/
YES PLEASE YES I LOVE HER!!!!!!
I think Alexandra would be a good choice, I will be very excited if it does get announced to be her. I just don’t want to get too excited yet just incase it isn’t her!
@dr I agree they should use a new artist or one on top of their game!
However no one right on top of their game would do eurovision they don’t need too.
I think Alexandra though would be a really good choice. She still has a very good career. She is not competly on the backfoot. She is very good singer live we know that. She has sang with Beyoncé. If she has a good tune I think the uk could be in with a shout! I just hope it is here now!
@Someone Kitty was obviously just making that up i mean we have had an X Factor representative before in the form of andy abraham. I’m guessing Kitty just said that because she didnt want to represent the UK at all.
But if it is alexandra burke im all for it she commands the stage and can sing amazing!
No! It should be either an unkown with potential or an artist at the top of their game. I hate it when artists try to use ESC to revive careers. Thats why it is perseived as a career killer.
It’s been two years that I carry on a campaign to persuade BBC to select Florrie, who, IMHO, is the perfect artist for this country at Eurovision.
I invite you, Wiwibloggs, to join the cause and to promote Florrie as UK’s entry.
Haha, tbf I think all the eurovision fans found that! Last night Twitter was a buzz!
Yaaasss! So in love with Alexandra.
I was really looking forward to it but now i’m so disappointed ._.. Does the BBC have some kind of problem when it comes to pick unknown artists? What’s even the point of letting people send open submissions if you’re just going pick someone who’s already famous. One thing I would say though is I remember Kitty Brucknell said the BBC didn’t want her at Eurovision because she came from ITV’S X Factor and the BBC does The Voice. Alexandra was the winner of X Factor so that’s the only hope I have left that it may be an unknown.… Read more »
I REALLY LOOOOVEE ALEXANDRA ^^ SHE’S REALLY TALENTED, BEAUTIFUL and has such a gorgeous voice
