Electro Velvet have cancelled the crowdfunding campaign they were running to help fund the production of a planned EP. Despite having donations pledged from 91 fans, the campaign only managed to reach 23% of its goal.

The campaign launched in June, and asked fans to donate to help fund a four-track EP. Among the rewards for those who would have donated was The Road to Eurovision, a scrapbook of photos and memories of the duo’s Eurovision adventure. A ÂŁ103 donation would have got the lucky donor one of Electro Velvet’s backstage passes. But as all donations have now been cancelled, no one’s getting anything.

The end of Electro Velvet?

Despite the crowdfunding campaign being cancelled, the cancellation post says the EP will have a “short delay” but, somewhat ominously, it is also described as being “indefinitely delayed”.

So if a crowdfunding campaign isn’t working, there might be another way to raise funds. As Electro Velvet won the Most Likely to Perform on a Cruise Ship category at the Vision Music Awards 2015, perhaps it is time for Alex and Bianca to take to the high seas and earn some money entertaining passengers. Or should they say goodbye to Electro Velvet and go solo?

Did you donate to Electro Velvet’s crowdfunding campaign? Should Alex and Bianca keep working on Electro Velvet or go solo? Leave your comments below!

Why are we even surprised?

This was just never going to work. No one had heard of them at all. Showing them to the world with a cheesed-up, gimmicky, goofy “still in love with you” turned them into an instant joke. I feel sorry for them but the BBC in no way helped them to establish their career. Hope they can find themselves something else in the industry.

I do feel sorry for them, as they seemed like nice people but there just isn’t a gap in the market for them I am afraid. I am sure they could make a bit of cash on the touring circuit or doing Weddings and Birthday parties!

Various UK supermarkets need their shelves stacked. Alex and Bianca would find far more success answering this noble calling than their so-called “music” careers.

Do they really think the sing and perform well? maybe they are who are using ayahuasca and not Loreen… the best they can do for music industry, for the listeners and for their own, is to leave their cheap band… is would be better if Alex starts to work as bartender and Bianca as a waitress, they then can have a happier life… and give me a big glass of Martini, Alex and hurry up

I feel kind of sorry for them, since they seem really nice persons. But on the other hand, their music is just not that great. And a “behind the stage” with barely known artists might not have been the best idea to attract many people.

Anna Rossinelli showed that crowdfunding can work for Eurovision-singers (although she managed to get quite famous in Switzerland after it). She even got someone to donate 10’000 CHF (see https://wemakeit.com/projects/takes-two-to-tango ) Thus, there is hope for other artists 🙂
