There’s just one short month until JESC 2015, and Mikhail Smirnov hopes it is filled with the new and final version of his song “Mechta”.

Misha was selected to represent Russia on September 25, after winning the jury votes and receiving over 8,000 televotes. That was more than enough to make him Russia’s first male solo act since 2008, when Mikhail Puntov represented the country.

That’s all well and good — but Misha’s song was over three minutes. So he and his team have hit the studio and cut it down. While they were at it they gave the song a whole new arrangement, which turned the somewhat dreamy (or sleepy) ballad into a mid-tempo song that definitely keeps us awake.

There’s also an extra English-language chorus that goes like this: “…and take me to the blue skies/and we will sing about the place“. We’ll join you.

Listen to the new version below and tell us which one you prefer!

I completley underestimated this. The new version is amazing!

I like that the song packs more of a punch now but it’s cheapend in a way. His vocals are completely drowned out by the end. Disappointing revamp but I still like the song.

I like the revamp. It still doesn’t get above an eight place.

I like this version about the same as the previous one. I like the rock style in the new version, but the vocals still sound like a choir ballad which is a bit odd. I think they should either make the instrumentation quieter, or else he needs to sing with a stronger voice.

Now the chorus is more powerful and the verses have a nice feeling atmosphere. I like both versions and it’s my favourite by far. I hope he wins!

Not sure how I feel about this. I thought it was pretty dire to begin with, but I don’t know about it now – it’s no longer dire, but it’s lost something else.

Even worse than before…

The original was a bit more subtle and I liked it better however this seems a bit more suitable for the live show. Best luck 🙂
