Loic Nottet Belgium Eurovision 2015

After Loïc Nottet’s impressive fourth place finish in Vienna, the pressure is on for Flemish broadcaster VRT to send a worthy successor to Stockholm. As in 2014, they will use the Eurosong show to select the Belgian representative for Eurovision 2016. And it was announced on radio today that the five hopefuls will be revealed on Monday. Peter van de Veire, who co-hosted Eurosong 2014, will have the honours.

The unveiling will take place on the Grote Peter van de Veire show between 6.00 and 9.00  CET. Interestingly, VRT have opted for a scaled down Eurosong this year compared to the mammoth selection which we saw in 2014. You might remember that it was won by Axel Hirsoux, who failed to qualify in Copenhagen. Have they decided to go for quality over quantity?

Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest

Belgium has always let the Flemish and Walloon broadcaster choose a representive every second year. Since the semi-finals began, Flemish broadcaster VRT has had a hard time qualifying for the grand final, only doing so once with Tom Dice in 2010. The Walloon RTBF has done slightly better, finishing fourth with Loïc Nottet this year and qualifying with Roberto Bellarosa two years ago.

@PP: I’m not talking about personal preferences, but about the actual results: if Flanders was an independent country, their best result would be 6th place after 60 years of participation.

Let’s face it: the Flemish suck at Eurovision! 😀 It’s a pity cause they have good artists (Hooverphonic, Selah Sue, K’s Choice, etc.)

I really hope Selah Sue will be one of the five. I love her style (r&b with soul and reggae).

If Belgium doesn’t qualify in 2016, I’ll freak! Also, I was hoping that one of these artists could represent the Benelux nation:

* Katy Ryan (it would be great to see her on the ESC stage once more)
* Airis (she’ll be 21 by then)
* Laura Omloop (she’s 16 now, and therefore she’d be perfect for Stockholm)
* Lindsay Daenes (I sure remember her; she was from JESC 2005)

@Maxim: AYE!! I hope Selah Sue is among them as well. Then again, they might save her for the last 5 to be revealed, given how good she and her music sound. In any case, I’ll bet good horse money that she can get Belgium 200 points easy, given what she’s put on YouTube.

Sad but true: no success for Belgium next year.

When the Dutch-language broadcaster picking the entry… It will be probably something cheap.

Can’t wait for it! We know almost nothing: nothing about the show, when, how …? Or artists, composers? Not even rumours! I hope for Selah Sue: she’s really famous in France !

The Flemish broadcaster has never done well with Eurovision (except once with Tom Dice). My guess is that 2016 will be no exception.
