Australian broadcaster SBS is known for thinking big with their Eurovision acts, but one big name who is yet to perform at Eurovision is Kylie Minogue. And it looks like that’s not something that will be happening any time soon. In a recent interview with French newspaper 20 Minutes, Kylie explained that while she has been asked to do Eurovision, she would be too nervous to do it.

In the interview, Kylie was asked if she would accept the opportunity to represent Australia at Eurovision, if SBS were to ask her. She replied, “They already did. I would be way too nervous. I think I would be terrified. I don’t think it’s for me.”

It wouldn’t be the venue that would make Kylie nervous. She previously played the Globe arena in 2008 as part of her KylieX2008 world tour. And she’s played even bigger venues, entertained audiences all around the world, and has even performed to royals at the Royal Variety Performance – there’s basically nothing Kylie hasn’t done. But it seems having to face a televote makes Ms Minogue somewhat nervous.

Kylie also talked about her new Christmas album, Kylie Christmas, which features a duet with her sister Dannii. The Minogue sisters are currently taking second place in our poll on who Australia should send to Stockholm. So here’s a suggestion – if Kylie isn’t interested, maybe Dannii could go solo for her country.

It would be unfair to have Kylie Minogue at Eurovision. Seriously, Kylie Minogue is the Madonna of Australia

She isn’t the first person to justify Eurovision refusal like this (see: Paloma Faith, Indila, and I’m sure others), but I’ll admit that it confuses me. Singers, famous ones on a larger scale, face judgment and risk rejection for a living. It’s weird that Eurovision of all things is where that fear of rejection crosses the line.

Although I would second the “sending Kylie is like bringing a gun to a knife fight” sentiment.

I like the way she was at least polite about her refusal, rather than just trashing the contest like some others have done. She’s a class act!

No too unfair!! It’s like Madonna or lady gaga representing Israel she would win by a landslide. Kylie is a gay icon it would be an unfair contest

I think it’s very good if Australia is in Europe Sound Contest

Courtney Act could represent them or Holly Valance 😛 Even though both are not the greatest performers. Would be fun though 😀

Probably going to be Delta. By sending a huge and talented Australian act who is not well known outside Australia, Australia can send a winning song and artist/songwriter without alienating other countries further by sending someone really well known.

I agree with Huh, She simply doesn’t NEED to do Eurovision, She’d have an advantage anyway. They should let someone less famous have a go!

I would be terrified if she did represent us.

Methinks she and her sister are 7 years too late. Guy was a lot closer to his prime when he went to Vienna.

She might as well do the hosting instead if Australia wins in any future contests.
