Eurovision 2013 and 2016 host Petra Mede has won legions of fans owing to her good humour, quick wit and stellar use of irony. But following a Swedish Awards show on Monday, it’s clear that former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff is not among them.

As Aftonbladet reports, The Hoff was invited to Sweden as a special guest at Guldbaggegalan — one of the most prestigious film awards shows in Sweden. As part of his invite he presented a series of leitmotifs to the short film “Kung Fury”, even singing the theme song.

After the quirky performance Petra — tongue planted firmly in her cheek — had this to say: “Thank you Mr Hasselhoff. It was an experience to have you here.” She then coughed, which made the audience laugh — but left Hasselhoff fuming.

After the gala he tweeted, “Thank you to the host who put me down with her comment it was an experience to have you here…Asshole!”

There’s a big difference between not taking someone seriously and just flat-out insulting them on national television. Really. There is.

Is anyone taking Hasselhoff seriously though? I stopped doing that when… no wait, I never did 😛

If she did do that, it’s not very nice indeed. People who laugh at the expense of others just lack comedic skills. 😉

The joke is funny considering The Hoff’s career as a one-hit-wonder and various z-movies and projects. The Hoff himself takes this career very seriously, as if he’s George Clooney or something. He’s not and that career is basically celebrating that he’s a D-list celebrity. What Mede joked about is the exactly same thing Americans ridicule him for. Just watch his Comedy Central roast and you will see. I see that Medre is influenced by the roasting tradition. Hoff is quick to poke and slam other celebrities but can’t take it when someone does it back at him. Isn’t that very… Read more »

What to think about someone who actually thinks that he was the reason, the Berlin wall collapsed and who still puts a picture of himself as Knight Rider as profile picture. …. He is so pathetic. Why does anyone invite him in the first place?

Petra Mede is arrogant, condescending, smug, conceit, full of herself and as charming as a fridge at the polar circle. I congratulate Hasselhoff for his tweet, may many tweets like these follow in May.

“Americans humour is different to most European or English humour.”

Perhaps.

Which is why, if you’d care to explain to me (an American) why Petra’s “joke” was funny and Hasselhoff’s response wasn’t, I’m willing to listen.

But suffice to say, I ain’t laughing. To me, Petra sounded like she was flat-out insulting the man to his face, and that’s never funny. Not to us Americans, anyway.

Instead of just saying “a good one, I hope” with a smile, the guy is acting like an offended queen.

You know those jokes from The Hoff’s Roast on Comedy Central:
“Hoff’s liver was so black and so bloated, it could have starred on ‘Precious’…” and that ‘The reason people tore off the Berlin Wall was to escape Haff’s singing’, so if someone is so notoriously known for his singing and cameo appearances on Z rated movies, it’s quite an ‘experience’ to have him on a ‘prestigious’ awards show. Another pattern developing here is Petra-nizing it…

Ha ha! Petra is so funny but I’m sure she wouldn’t do that! Still hilarious though.
