Unser Lied für Stockholm, Germany’s national selection for Eurovision 2016, kicks off on February 25th. So the Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — recently made our way to Cologne to dissect Ella Endlich and her song “Adrenalin”. Were we feeling the rush? Read on to find out…

Ella Endlich with “Adrenalin”

“Adrenalin” Reviews

Luis: Helene Fischer, is that you?  “Adrenalin” is too demure for my taste. I want rush and energy, not modesty. I feel as if Ella wanted to sing something with more strength, but a strange force prevented her from doing it. The music gets a bit repetitive and it feels a tad generic.

Score: 3/10

Rick: Helene Fischer is one of the most successful singers in Germany right now. You can see and hear her EVERYWHERE! That’s probably the reason ARD/NDR gave us Ella, who channels her inner Helene and will surely emerge as a fan favourite. Unfortunately the song gets repetitive rather quickly and I really don’t think Europe would like it that much. It’s not authentic enough. The melody and especially her voice are good though.

Score: 5.5/10

Robyn: This song feels so repetitive. I’ve only managed to listen to it once, because on repeat listenings, I get bored after about two minutes. In fact, it’s so repetitive that it makes the looped version of Epic Sax Guy seem brief. Yeah, it could probably be revamped into something better, but this is Germany – they should be doing better than entering substandard songs in the national final.

Score: 3/10

Kristin: This runs smoothly. It doesn’t attack your senses and it doesn’t have an annoying sound. It’s a lovely pop number, and Ella’s voice is comfortable to listen to. However, this might be a little bit forgettable. It doesn’t stand out when put together with other songs in the same genre, and that is the song’s biggest flaw. Well written, composed and performed, but a tad forgettable.

Score: 7/10

Deban: Instantly forgettable! The production is also mildly irritating. It’s rather unfortunate, but “Adrenalin” doesn’t start my engines. Ella Endlich is a stunner with a modern voice. Sadly, her song is lame!

Score: 3.5/10

Mikhail: At first, I was really enjoying “Adrenalin”, but it becomes very repetitive and after listening I simply forget the song. And what do you think adrenalin is? It is a rush, an energy, it makes your blood run faster and your heartbeat increase — it is a second breath, it is BOOM, it is BANG! Is there any of that in this song? No, nothing.

Score: 5/10

Antranig: On first listen, I was mildly interested. On second listen, I really like this song. I don’t think German is the most enjoyable language but I find myself enjoying it thoroughly here. With Spain ditching its tradition of singing in Spanish, perhaps it is time for Germany to go back to its native tongue.

Score: 7/10

George: Ella, ich liebe dich! I love everything — her breathtaking voice, the nice music and the way these two combine. If they stage the song properly, it is just going to be an extravaganza “Adrenalin” explosion and I will be very happy to see it winning Unser Lied für Stockholm.

Score: 9/10

I have to admit that I really love this song!! ? It’s like a combination of “Atemlos Durch die Nacht” and “Glorious”. I love both of the songs a lot!! Besides I’m a fan of “Popschlager”! However, I totally understand the critics from a neutral point of view. I don’t see this Germany representing in Stockholm. And if it really does, we (I’m from Germany) end up ewen lower than Cascada.

The song lacks power and it sounds cheap to me.
