Latvia’s national selection show Supernova 2016 came to an end after two heats, one semi-final and weeks of fun-filled entertainment from the Riga Beaver. In the end, Justs just emerged victorious with his entry “Heartbeat” and became Latvia’s second Eurovision representative in the Supernova era.

Justs – “Heartbeat”

Check out the Heartbeat lyrics here

Watch our interview with Justs

Tonight’s four finalists — Catalepsia, Justs, Marta Ritova and MyRadiantU — performed their entries, then it was up to the televoters and international online viewers to decide the winner. After an incredibly tight voting period, Justs took an early lead. Catalepsia quickly started to catch up though, getting as close as 3% behind. At the final reveal though, Justs came out on top to become Latvia’s Eurovision 2016 representative in Stockholm.

Supernova 2016 final results

1. Justs – “Heartbeat” (20,725)
2. Catalepsia – “Damnation” (18,914)
3. MyRadiantU – “We Will Be Stars” (6651)
4. Marta Ritova – “Not From This World” (5041)

During the show, we also saw Aminata — who penned “Heartbeat”, let us not forget — perform her new single “Fighter”. It was a good night all round for Justs, as he also won a 2000 Euro prize for achieving the most social media likes. Spending money for Stockholm, y’all!

Did the best act win? Can Justs follow Aminata’s success at Stockholm? Let us know below!

This MUST be Top 10 AT LEAST in May.
I can imagine it winning with maybe a performance à la Loïc’s “Rhythm Inside”.

ooooohhh LATVIAAAAAAAA!!! I love youuuuuu so muchhhh (except for that year that you sent that crappy Cake song instead of Dons, I really still hate you for that one, like really bloody and putrid hate) this is so good!!! I can’t wait for the performance!!! Aminata is awesome!!!

So apparently Justs LOST the televote and won overall thanks to the online vote. Thank GOD for internatinal voters and online voters.

Latvians, c’mon?! Damnation is actually doing better than Heartbeat on Latvia’s iTunes chart.

If Aminata did not win, this is not gonna win neither.

Great music but it’s a bit too lineal and becomes repetitive by the end.

Still strong enough to compete for the top 10.

Yeah honestly the song is not as stirring as Aminata’s last year. It’s just meant to be a little weird and mysterious, not to be a huge epic emotional ESC number of the kind that we’re used to. Justs is one of the better singers so far though, and the song is still cool.

Really strange show and unnecessarily long! I don’t think I’ll watch it again!

Highlight of the evening was, of course, Aminata, I love her new song.

And I think Justs was the deserved winner. It remains to be seen how well he will do in May…

I don’t really understand why people are saying this is “dull” or comparing it to other songs that have already been selected. This definitely stands out amongst all songs already. I guess because it isn’t your every-day pop song that most eurofans love then they automatically assume the worst. But we all know they have terrible judgment 🙂 Don’t forget that the majority of the voters aren’t hardcore fans and they will have only listened to the song maybe once/twice before voting. Since the immediate reaction back in January was overwhelmingly positive for Justs, I don’t see why it won’t… Read more »

This has Top 5 written all over it! Will it go all the way? We`ll have to wait till we have every other country but i`d put a bloody good bet on it compared to what we have already

Bring the Beaver and I will give them 12 points for sure. Damnation was the best though. They truly are a legitimate metal rockers.

Latvia now joins Netherlands, Armenia, San Marino, and Spain. The public are very radical when it comes to sending incompetent artists to Eurovision. Had Catalepsia won or Markus Riva should’ve qualified and won, Latvia will stay in the final. But with Justs going to Stockholm, Latvia will surely be out again.

What the f**k is this sh*t? I genuinely don’t understand why the fans are overhyping this crap. Honestly, you people need some common sense and taste smacked into your head. UGH!

Again, the small Latvia has done a GRAND job. This song is music to my ears.

This song will do great in Stockholm. The question is how great.

I had high hope for Latvia after they found their formula back last year. This is just one of many bland entries this year. Very old-fashioned and dated sound, like the 80’s.
I think it will struggle to reach the top 10, if it qualifies. But don’t be sure it will..

One of the strongest entries this year. This music sounds very late 80’s but still has modern sounds. Good enough to make top 10 in my opinion.

Winning…can’t see it at this point. Let’s see how things evolve.

This is getting ridiculous. Most entries this year sound the same, look the same, it’s like a factory of duplications, no soul, no originality. I can’t even remember who sings what.

I just don’t get the hype: boring song, average vocals. Plus, he’s got about as much charisma as a shoe.

Great song and i think this will win Eurovision. Pretty boring actually knowing who will win already esc 2016. I dont expect to get anything better on offer this year to be honest. Russia will not win because it’s Russia. I dont expect to return to Azerbaijan this soon. Other countries will come up with bad / nice / good songs but not winning songs. I was hoping for a year like 2011 😛 this is 2009, 2012, 2013 all over again. I guess that is why i am a little bit dissapointed actually, but Justs would be a perfect… Read more »

I’m STUNNED Catalepsia did so well in the voting. But I knew it would be close since Justs’ percentages (as seen in the first show and last week) always drops slightly each time they show it.

So happy for Justs! It’s been my No. 1 since it was released.

I told you, there wasn’t going to be a landslide this time! After watching the semi-final voting trends, I knew Justs’ advantage was the online voting – doemstic voters were set to vote for either and get thing really close. But Catalepsia stood strong, gave their best performance in three shows, and made things really interesting. My favorite was Catalepsia, but Justs was my 2nd, and all I wanted for tonight was a showdown between them, no MyRadiantU nor Marta Ritova involved. And it worked: Justs and Catalepsia got a combined < 3/4 of the total votes. I'm surprisingly happy… Read more »

Yesssss! I’m beyond happy and proud right now! Justs was amazing! And I loved his encore as you could see that he was sooooo happy and it almost gave this song a different edge to it as he was fighting with his smile all the way! 🙂 But I must also say a massive well done to Catalepsia too! They were a great competitor and I actually gradually grew into their song! So massive thumbs up and hope to see you on that very stage next year!

Well, he is no Aminata, that’s for sure. And it’s too much like so much stuff on the radio at the moment, a lot like Spain and Slovenia in how derivative and “trying desperately to be current” this song sounds. But I guess with the choices we’ve been having so far, he is not that bad. My top-21: #1 Ukraine #2 Austria #3 Hungary #4 Switzerland #5 Slovenia >>>#6 Latvia #7 Spain #8 Cyprus #9 Finland #10 Malta #11 Denmark #12 Norway #13 Iceland #14 Germany #15 Ireland #16 Moldova #17 Belgium #18 Bosnia Herzegovina #19 UK #20 Georgia #21… Read more »
